Q: How to trigger sample via MIDI CC

Hello, I am currently using Mainstage 2, and am looking to trigger two sound effects via midi CC

The current set up I am using involves a Korg Kaoss Pad, running in to an audio/midi interface, running in to my computer.

For those who do not know the Kaoss Pad is an X Y touch screen midi controller. When using Kontakt in stand alone mode, i am able to run a script to trigger a note via cc0 (the default for touching the pad) i am then able to set the faders on two tracks so that touching the right side of the screen allows sample one to be heard, and touching the left of the screen allows sample two to be heard.

Getting back to mainstage, I am able to replicate the fader changes, however am unable to find any sort of method to trigger a sample via midi cc0 (kontakt script does not work properly within mainstage)

I have tried using the "playback" plugin, however there is a noticible delay of about half a second before the sample is triggered. Because the samples are triggered during a live preformance, as individual stomps and claps going along with drums, any audible delay is not really acceptable.

If anyone could possibly think of any sort of way to achieve a triggering of a sample via a midi cc button within Mainstage, I would greatly appriciate it!

Cheers!

As far as the delay when starting the Playback plugin, make sure you are using a button which is assigned to the GLOBAL Play command. This ensures that the MIDI master beat clock immediately jumps to beat one and starts the sample. If you simply click play from the plugin or use a button assigned to Play the channel, it will wait for the master clock to hit beat 1 (which is probably what you're experiencing).

Likewise, make sure your buffer size is set in MS to reflect your computer's capabilities in the least audio delay possible. Sorry I can't help with your general question on a midi cc button.
