Q: Memory upgrade clarification

I have a new 27" iMac [3.4 GHz, core i7 with 4GB memory. I need to upgrade.

I assume that I have 2GB x 2 of memory in the computer now. If I understand it correctly, I can replace with 4GB x 2 or 8GB x 2. In other words, there are only two slots, is that correct?

I don't know if anyone can talk about 3rd party memory brands, but if someone has a recommendation, I'm all ears.

It has 4 slots see here:

You can add another 2 modules to the existing factory ones, just make sure the specs are identical to Apple's specifications see here:

If you go to the apple menu and select "about this mac".

Then click the "more info" button (this brings up system profiler).

Then click "memory". It will show you your slots.

One point of clarification. According to the Apple website, the mac is expandable to 16GB. BDAqua, are you saying it's expandable to 32 GB?

Yes it is, Apple tests the biggest modules at the time of release & never ever updates the stats, later 8GB modules were available, where only 4GB modules were available at release... OWC actually tests later modules.
