I just updates Apeture to version 3.3.2 after installing Mountain Lion.  There are some photos in Apeture that now say, "Umsupported Image Format".  Are these lost?  Can I retrieve them...how?  Can I change the format so that I can see them again?  Help?!?

Are these images "Raw" images? What is the make of your camera?

Check the version of the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update that is installed.  The version of the raw support is shown in the About panel: from the main menu bar:

         Aperture > About Aperture

Download the latest Raw Update from here:

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.14

If you have the latest raw support installed, but Aperture does not recognize the format, try to register the raw support for your camera with the launch services db, see this post by Alan Roseman:

Re: Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish

But also read the following post, that explain how this is supposed to work and to correct the typo in the command

In short: Quit Aperture, open the terminal, paste the  follwing text in (all in one single line) and hit return; then reboot the system.

    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -R /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library

Thank you for replying to my post.  I need to supply additional information.  The images that show the "Unsupported..." message are Adobe Ilustrator images (AI format).  I was able to view these in Apeture before the update.

    Again...thanks for your support.

Are the filename extensions ".AI", all upper case? I looked the format up with lsregister, and the system recognizes the extension ".ai". Try, if aperture imports illustrotor files after renmaing them to ".ai".

Have you tried to register the recognized image formates again with "lsregister" from the Terminal? This datbase is not only required for raw images, but for all kind of image formats.

    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -R /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library

The important thing is to type it into the Terminal in one single line.

AI files by default appear as PDFs to the OS and apps in newer versions of Illustrator. Aperture can see at least the raster parts of PDFs in my testing, as it did before Aperture 3.3 and Mountain Lion.

How do PDFs show up in your library?

    Hi,

Again, thank you for your response.  I am not as knowledgeable about the system to follow your instructions.  I don't know where to find lsregister, etc.  If you'd be willing, please take me through this step by step.  I do know where to find the Terminal application.  Is this what you are referring to?

Yes,  the command needs to be entered into a Terminal window. But it will only help, if you are shooting raw images, not jpegs or tiffs. Is your camera set to shoot raw, or what is the format of your images? And what is the make of your camera?

    Hi,

Just saw you last post.  Here's the problem?!?  I am referring to a couple of Adobe Illustrator images here.  They are in "AI" format.  Yes, I could open them in Apeture before the upgrade.  Now, I can open them using Adobe software, so perhaps I should stop here and not waste any more of your time.  I appreciate you willingness to help!
