Aug 13, 2012 3:09 PM in response to DeltaJimiby Carolyn Samit,. I uninstalled Norton Internet Security, disabled my antivirus software,
Norton is anti virus software?
disabled my antivirus software,
Exactly what manufacture anti virus software do you have installed now?
BTW, sometimes just uninstalling Norton doesn't help and requires reformatting the disk.
The iPhone doesn't have a/v software installed.

Aug 13, 2012 3:20 PM in response to Carolyn Samitby DeltaJimi,Yes, Norton make antivirus software for Mac. It was a trial. Right now I have Sophos installed.
Reformatting the disk? I just bought this computer 2 days ago and is working fine. Only problem I have is just a few links won't work when I click on them. That's all. Isn't reformatting overkill in this situation? Are we trying to kill a fly with a sledgehammer?

If it were only so easy to rid Norton software from a Mac ...
Norton is invasive. Did you follow the instructions here > Uninstalling Norton AntiVirus | Macworld
Of did you just drag the app to the Trash?
Sometimes the only way to rid the startup disk of Norton files is to reformat.
Check out the results of an Apple Support Communites forum search for Norton >
Community Search: Apple Support Communities
"Do not install Norton Anti-Virus on a Mac as it can seriously damage your operating system. Norton Anti-Virus is not compatible with Apple OS X."

Aug 13, 2012 3:37 PM in response to DeltaJimiby Daddy D,I have the same problem, but only with one website, Boston.com (the Boston Globe website, specifically the sports pages). The problem started after I upgraded to Mountain Lion, but the pages load fine with Firefox, so I'm pretty sure it's a problem with Safari.
Some pages work fine. Pages that won't load never load. The main error message says, "Safari can't open the page," then goes on to say it is because the "server dropped the connection." Even though the error message goes on to say "try again later," pages that don't load NEVER load. I've tried re-clicking the link and reloading the page. Nothing works.

Aug 13, 2012 3:44 PM in response to Daddy Dby DeltaJimi,Daddy D,
This happens not only with Safari, but also Firefox and Chrome as well for me.
And Carolyn,
I did uninstall Norton Internet Security with the Uninstall program that came with the trial. I did not drag the app to the Trash or the AppCleaner. I don't think that's the issue (but I'm not 100% sure.) I have a feeling it might be something withe website on their end.
P.S.
Wow, I never would've have thought that a company as reputable as Norton would require some users to reformat. Ouch!

Aug 13, 2012 3:50 PM in response to DeltaJimiby Carolyn Samit,If necessary, use Mountain Lion Recovery
Mountain Lino Recovery requires broadband access to the Internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the Internet from Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.
Norton is hardly reputable when it comes to Macs

Aug 13, 2012 3:56 PM in response to DeltaJimiby Carolyn Samit,Refomat ? Yes.
If you try to reintsall from a Time Machine backup, you may re introduce the same Norton software all over again.

Aug 13, 2012 4:05 PM in response to Carolyn Samitby DeltaJimi,But I uninstalled NIS correctly, not just dragging the program to the trash.
Hmmm...

Aug 13, 2012 4:10 PM in response to DeltaJimiby Carolyn Samit,Their uninstaller does not always remove all the associated files.
Like I said, it's invasive.

Aug 13, 2012 4:12 PM in response to Carolyn Samitby DeltaJimi,Hmmm, I don't know. I'm not doubting that Norton is bad now. It's just a few links that won't click on a webpage. That's all.
Everything else seems to be working beautifully. I couldn't ask for anything better.
