I just recently got my new 4S and after reading this thread I was afraid my new phone suffered from the battery drain problem. It came with 5.1 and was about to upgrade to 5.1.1 but after reading this forum, I decided not to. Went out saturday night with wi-fi on and in less than 5 hours my phone was almost drained. I was afraid I was also victim of the "drain problem". Sunday spent charging my phone twice during the day and was getting really irritaded about this. Today I thought of turning off wi-fi off completely and see what happened. 14 hours have passed since I removed the phone from charging and its still at 68%!! And thats with normal use, check emails, browsing and even some music.
At least in my case it seems that wi-fi is the culprit. I feel that power management in wifi is not yet as top notch as Blackberry. Hope this helps.

I've just updated 4 nights ago . Charged my phone overnight. Woke up at 6am, removed charger, went to work, came home with a dead phone !! ( Used phone for one voice call )
This had never happened before the update and I could use my phone quite heavily thru the day and still have just under 50% left jut before charging.......UNTIL THIS UPDATE !
I now charge my phone atleast twice aday,ATLEAST !
The only problem fixer for this I have found is all the usual 'reset' ones or download the update thru the computer. My PC has just been skipped about a month ago :-(

I have two iPhones (4 running on iOS 4.x and 4S running on 5.1.1). I have just started using the 4S and ran into this issue, it won't pair with any bluetooth devices I have, not even with the iPnone 4. It is reidiculous that Apple simple does not care about it and keep throwing us at othe rocmpanies asing for support on their devices that do work and are compatible with anyone else.
Before complaining about Apple's stupid phones, I carefully tested all my bt devices connecting them to each other. I have devices manufactured by Dell, Sony, Samsung, LG, etc, everything works as expected but Apple's. What else do we need to do in order to get some respect from Apple?
Same thing with the battery on the 4S, is gets depleted in half the way as compared to the older iPhone 4, simply ridiculous.
Apple, make your products work instead of spending money on fancy TV campaigns!!!

FYI when ios6 came out I was reluctant to update, just based on my battery drain experience with ios5, and figuring ios6 might make it worse. Finally I decided to upgrade, and as it turned out, in m case things actually got better. It seems this battery issue can strike anywhere, at any ios level, with a lot of the problems being related to not only the apps you have installed, but especially the apps that still may be loaded live into your cache. The best tip I got from an Apple tech was to frequently double tap your home button, which brings up all active apps in the cache at the bottom of the screen. If you then press and hold on any one of them, as is normally the case, all apps begin to wiggle, although in this case it is just the cache of the apps wiggling. So you need to delete them all ideally, which could total up to 50 or so, but the most important ones to delete would be those apps which would normall suck up a lot of power - e.g. apps like Rowmote or those which are constantly accessing your gps position. So it is good to do this regularly, but especially if your battery meter starts dropping faster than normal

I FOUND MY SOLUTION! I hope this will help someone with my same problem. I spent hours researching this and went through 4 iPhone4s under warranty claims through verizon. Incredibly frustrating situation! My battery problems returned without fail 1-2 months into a new phone every time, issues only occured when my cellular data was turned on. I tried resetting my settings, completely recharging the phone after completely dead, etc etc with no luck. Finally took it to an Apple store where one of the genius guys mentioned it was a problem with my work e-mail account set up through a microsoft exchange server. It is completely random as I have others that use the same server and same phone as I do, I am just the lucky one who gets to deal with the problem . I deleted the e-mail account and the problem went away. I added the e-mail account back on after I new this was creating the problem and turned off push notifications and the problem has gone away. So relieved to have this figured out. The problem is unique to microsoft exchange servers.

Glad you found a fix; yes, this IS a problem with MS Exchange, and it's always been there. And it occurs on other phones that use Exchange ActiveSync also. It's the most common cause of battery drain, but not the only one. But all of the other causes are similar; an app or app data that gets stuck resending data.
