Gift cards are only valid in their country of issue - so UK gift cards can only be used in the UK on UK based iTunes accounts.

Thank you, so I will not try that.
But do you know how else I could purchase some apps and books for that ipad?
At the moment, I' reading in this community about using paypal, but can't find anyhing definite. I have some money in the paypal account (not just registered credit cards). But again, my paypal is UK.

I might have found a way to do it.
The iPad person also has a paypal account, and both are the same country (both Lithuania). So I could just transfer the money from my UK paypal to Lith. paypal.
Do you know how to use paypal to buy from itunes? Is that possible?

If you are in the UK and you have a valid billing address here then you should be able to have a UK based account.
In terms of Paypal, this page says :
If you have a PayPal account, you can use that as your payment method when you enter your credit card information.Note: PayPal isn’t accepted for payment in some countries.

Thank you for "that page". As I added the card on the iPad, and then tried to pay for an app, the paypal as option didn't come up, so I assume Lithuania is not on the acceptance list .
I've just finished the whole circular process... And finally bought first app.
I know you help a lot of people, but also learn as you go. So, maybe you would find useful to know how I had to do it what was needed: I transfered money from UK paypal to Lith paypal account. Then within Lith. PP acc. I put the money into the card that is registered to paypal. Finally, on the iPad itunes I registered that card.
(all this, only because i didn't want to register Lith credit card to iPad itunes (as I didn't know if there was any money on it and also it was supposed to be a present). But still ended up registering it, but first, I put some money into it.)
So, here we have another way to buy a gift for someone..... with extra paypal fees.. )
Now all I need is for those apps not to work when iPad gets into hands of the owner in Lithuania....
Thank you, Penguin!
