My iPhone 4s battery lasts for one day and a half at best. Looked into many options and suggested solutions, but to no avail. And here is an interesting point of view: http://www.truthsquare.com/app/news/view/180#p1!

What's wrong with a day and a half? If you charge it overnight you will never be out of power. I've had 3 iPhones (original, 3GS, 4S) in the past 5 years (yes, it's been around that long) and all of them got through a day of use. As I start every day at 100% I have no worries. And yes, I could never get through 2 days of use. But I never tried. And the 4S is no worse than the 3GS or Original. The comments in the link you provided are totally bogus; the 4S is no different from any other iPhone. Or any other smartphone, for that matter; my associate's Samsung Galaxy does NOT make it through a day without recharging. In fact he keeps it on a charger whenever he's at his desk. Look at the tech specs and compare to your usage pattern. Is it meeting the specs that you presumably read before you bought it? Mine does. Given that I use it pretty much all day. Standby time is meaningless, BTW, because the phone is never on standby if you actually take advantage of its many features.

    • Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 14 hours on 2G (GSM)
    • Standby time: Up to 200 hours
    • Internet use: Up to 6 hours on 3G, up to 9 hours on Wi-Fi
    • Video playback: Up to 10 hours
    • Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

The iPhone 5 is rumored to have virtually the same battery life.  Don't forget to charge overnight or your phone won't make it through the next day  especially if you have a bugged mail account that causes your battery to drain.  Or if you happen to work in poor reception area and you battery life ebbs away in front of your eyes without even using it.  Sometimes I miss the days of the non-smartphone where battery life was measured in days and not hours.  In order to use the phone throughout the day I have to plan charge points and keep a charge cable with me at all times.  I feel like I'm tethered, unable to roam far.

Lawrence, I did this at someone's else's suggestion in this thread that I now can't find, grrrrr...but when I rebooted the phone and pulled the calendar back up, turned them back and went to verify my entries were still there, they were not.  They're all gone.  What did I do wrong?  I'm an iPhone novice and I've only had the new iPhone 4 for 48 hrs.  Even all the holidays are gone, which I think were factory programmed!

Donkeyhead...I did this, but turning the calendars back on, I discovered all my entries were permanently erased. Even holidays which I'm sure were factory-programmed.  I did exactly as you said, can you think of anything I might have done wrong?

What were you syncing the calender to? iCloud? The Calendar app on your computer? Ms Exchange? Google Calendar?

No syncing.  He didn't mention it and like a fool I just followed his steps because he said they worked for him.  I can't sync to my PC because my drivers don't work, iCloud hasn't backed anything up yet because I'm not connected to any wi-fi network, I have no idea what MobileMe or these exchange acc'ts I keep hearing about are, Google no, so...nuttin'.  Thanks for your time, Lawrence.  I've gotten this phone pretty far in the last 48 hrs but I've reached my "maybe I should reconsider the Galaxy" point:P     Is this something Apple tech people could help me resolve, if there's no backup?

You will have the same problem with an Android phone if you don't sync. No smartphone is a standalone device; it has too much valuable data on it to depend on it preserving your data without backing up, just like your computer. If you don't back it up some day you WILL lose some or all of your valuable content; it's not a question of "if", but a question of "when". The iPhone gives you the option of backing up to iCloud (you don't have to be on WiFi to back up to iCloud; it just won't do it automatically if you don't have WiFi) to your computer, and syncing with content apps (calendar and address book) on your computer. If you have a gmail account you can also sync contacts and calendar with Google Calendar and your gmail contact list.

If you have never backed up there is no way to recover the lost information. But right now you should read the manual and set up your phone to back up and to sync with SOMETHING - Google, iCloud, or your computer. If syncing isn't working with your computer I suggest posting a new message with that as a subject; there is no reason an iPhone should not be able to sync with any computer running Mac OS X or any version of Windows from XP or later.

Thanks, Lawrence.  I kinda DID forget about the manual.  I try to fix everything online.  The problem with my computer is I can't plug the phone into it to sync to iTunes.  The drivers shut down for some reason with my original iPhone (only had it for a yr and 1/2), and I was in the process of reinstalling them but it just got too complicated, too many problems.  Such as apparently, iCloud won't be installed on this danged thing.  (The computer.)  I do have a gmail acc't...how do I sync w/ Google Calendar (or is that something that'll be in the manual?)  Again, I so appreciate your help and time.

Oh, one more thing...when I asked it backup to iCloud, it said it had to be connected to wi-fi to do so.  So when exactly does it backup w/OUT wi-fi?  (Or is this also in the manual...if so, forgive me, you know what they say about women and computers, right?)

Google has a help page on this subject: http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/. The most complete solution is to use Google Exchange sync.

Try this tip for fixing the syncing problem with your computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 (if you have a different Windows version there are links to the appropriate page in the article).

You don't need to install iCloud; you access it via your web browser. But you do need syncing to work with iTunes on your computer to set it up.

After some testing, I found the particular app causing the insane battery consumption (dead within 10 hours). I'll go through the steps I took to find out this particular instance for future reference.

I first tested calibrating the battery, to no use (have to recalibrate now that it's fixed), then I tried doing a backup and factory reset, which produced no results either.

At loss for answers, I figured, maybe it's an IM app, mail or push notice trying to send something in particular, so I turned on airplane mode for a few hours, and noticed the battery was still at the same % even after 3 hours, where it would've lost at the very least 30% before; powering that theory.

I then decided to turn off airplane mode and Wifi, that made the phone drain normal amounts, since I barely have Edge, it takes 2 minutes to send a message, if it even get sent at all, turning on wifi again, the battery started to drain like crazy. So proceeding to removing all the IM that isn't built into the system and removing all mails to see if those drained it. No in this case. Then reinstall them and set the mail up again. Turned off all notices as well, still no good.

Then I thought for myself: it started about the 24:th, I didn't install any apps around that time, so what apps were updated around that time that use wifi in any way.

Scimmering through all installed apps that have internet connection, I found 2 matches; Zynga Poker and Facebook. Knowing Facebook, I was fairly sure it were only active while in use, as it would fill no function to have anything beside push notices for that app, which I tried disabling earlier to no effect.

So that left me with Zynga Poker, after removing it and keeping wifi, the battery was back to normal. Either I got a corrupt download or there is a bugg in the version that was released 23:th September. Since I didn't play it that often anyway, I haven't installed it again to see if it's corrupt data or version bugg.
