Jul 16, 2012 11:22 AM in response to emillangby planb77,I assume the headset is plugged all the way in meaning the white part of it is flush with the body of the Shuffle? Do you have another set or Apple Headphones with Remote around to test out? This might be able to help us verify if it's an issue with the Shuffle.
What happens if you do a reset of the Shuffle and attempt to use the remote again?

Aug 14, 2012 9:23 AM in response to emillangby jtalvy,I am experiencing the exact same problem. ordered 2 headsets and both work find on the iPhone but not my iPod shuffle 3rd gen...
planb77.... emillang is not doing anything wrong.
Anyone have a source for headphones that will def work on the shuffle 3rd gen?? And not the little dongle that you connect and then add a regular headset to.
Thanks!

That indicates a hardware issue with your Shuffle especially if these headsets were listed as compatible with the 3G Shuffle. It doesn't matter what headphones you plug into it if it's hardware related.

I never said she was doing anything wrong...

Aug 14, 2012 10:21 AM in response to planb77by jtalvy,Not a hardware problem at all. The existing headphones work... the earbuds are gertting a bit ragged thus I ordered new ones... 2 pair... and both do not work:

They do however work in the iPhone 4s which indicates a compatibility issue.
Didn't mean to infer anything nefarious... just to point out that emillang must be experiencing the same problem as I am.
The only other solution I see is to buy a dongle or a case with integrated controls:

May 13, 2013 9:49 AM in response to emillangby kblessinggr,Long story short, the newer Apple Earpods and simiar do not work with the iPod Shuffle 3rd generation (yet physically they seem the same far as the connectors go), only the 4th generation or newer is supported.
Honestly I wish I knew why they did this, all the other non-apple branded earbuds with remotes + mic appear to be compatible with the 3rd generation shuffle (minus the mic capability which obviously doesn't apply), yet the newer Apple one's do not, seems like they're trying to force you to upgrade the shuffle.
