Q: can't login to gamecenter

Since the Update to OSX 10.8 I can't login to the Game Center "Error Messege: Cant conect to Game Center?" Why???!!! On my ipad2 it works....

The problem is caused by a customised /etc/hosts file.

 

Fixed mine by removing my own entries and leaving only the standard entries:-

 

##

# Host Database

#

# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface

# when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.

##

127.0.0.1       localhost

255.255.255.255 broadcasthost

::1             localhost

fe80::1%lo0     localhost

 

Anything underneath these entries causes game center to not connect. This was not my discovery but another thread on another discussion forum.

    I hereby join the frustrated. I too can't login to Game Center. I get the blank green window when it opens but all I can do with it is hit the cancel button. It lets me enter my ID and password but that's it - no login. I've tried everything others have suggested to no avail, so maybe this process is a game unto itself and I'm just too stupid to know it. Need help people!

    The same thing is occurring to me.  I've just purchased W.E.L.D.E.R. and downloaded it, couldn't get it to go beyond entering my Password and ... nothing, nothing, nothing.  So, I trashed it, and re-downloaded it ... and, still the same problem.

     

    This is after downloading Mountain Lion.  This is very frustrating.

    I bought W.E.L.D.E.R. too. Shall we try playing each other via smoke signals? Apple really needs to address this issue.

    Joining the party to say I'm having the same issue. I launch Game Center, type in my log in info and either a blank green box appers or nothing happens at all. I'm going to assume it's growing pains Apple is experincing due to the release of Mountain Lion.

    Same here, I have a case open with apple, they don't know said it wouldn't even hear from them until monday.

    The most annoying part of this bug is that it renders ALL Game Center enable applicaitons UNPLAYABLE.

    Thats my Error Screen! It's in German but it means that Game Center is't reachable.NoLogin.jpg

    Sorry -  I've got no solutions to the Game Center issue, just adding my voice to the chorus.  I've never used  GC before, just got it with the Mountain Lion download and now my favorite games are cybertrash.  I don't even get any dialog boxes.  Just blank green windows surrounded by ads for games that I cann't play.  Can put in my Apple ID & passwords.  Nothing happens. 

    Furious.

    Doesn't Apple try this stuff out before selling it to us?  There's no reason for it other than negligence.  Make sure Apple gets your complaint.

    I've got the same problem, and annoyed that Chess is now integrated into game center and I cannot play chess anymore because it kicks me over to game center to login and i get stuck in that endless feedback loop, ****!

    I went into users/userprofile/library/caches and trashed the following com.apple.gamed , com.apple.iTunes , com.apple.Safari , com.apple.appstore and it works now.

    I have delete de "hosts" file and renamed the "hosts~org" file to "hosts" there were the original entries, described by Slammer99uk . And it works ;-)
