Q: iMessage on Mountain Lion does not send/recieve file transfers?

As the title says, iMessage on my MacBook Pro Retina with Mountain Lion will not accept file transfers nor will it send files. I currently have the same iMessage accounts set up on my iPhone and Mac so what's been happening is I'm talking to someone on the computer's iMessage and the whole conversation syncs back and forth with my iPhone, however when someone sends me a file, only the phone recieves it and NOT the computer.

What I've done to fix this so far:

-reinstall mountain lion, didn't fix it

-reinstall iOS on my iPhone, didnt fix it

-add and remove all iMessage accounts on both devices, didn't fix it

What do you guys recommend I do?

    Hi,

I could have sworn I typed the "M"

    Olympics.

You posted a pic which does not have the "Buddies" option listed suggesting you have only set up Messages for iMessages.

I can send groups of pics  from both my Phone to Messages and from Messages to the iPhone.

Both work although there is a longer delay in Message to iPhone.

you seem to treat "messages" and "iPhone" as two separate things,

    it's the same protocol.

and what does "buddies" have to do with all of this .. not sure

    Hi.

The Messages app can log in to the iMessages service and the AIM service, Jabber and Yahoo as well.

iMessages can be sent to iPhones and iPads (And some Touches).

The Other Services use IMs (Instant Messages).

Certain Apple IDs can be iMessages login "names"

Valid AIM Screen Names  as well as being used in iTunes and the App Store.

The Jabber, AIm and Yahoo options are the Buddy lists fro iChat.

Messages runs on the iChat engine and has the iOS type iMessages bolted on.

    Hi all

I've been experiencing this issue as well and found an easier solution than deleting plists and resetting PRAM.

    1. Quit your Messages app

    2. Launch Acitivy Monitor

    3. Show "All Processes"

    4. Sort by "Process Name"

    5. Select IMTransferAgent and click "Quit", then "Force Quit"

    6. Select IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent and click "Quit", then "Force Quit"

    7. Launch Messages and you should now be able to send and receive attachments. In addition, attachments that had previously not been appearing should now be available.

It remains to be seen just how long this works for, but this should hopefully help some folks!

Hmm, interesting, I don't seem to have IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent running as a process. I wonder if that's the problem! Is there a way to prod it into doing its job?

I don't think it's supposed to be continuously running. I believe they only get started when you're sending/receiving a file and if they hang, it breaks all future file transfers.

    That's my thought, anyways

That seems reasonable! Well, if I get a stalled transfer I'll try out your solution and report back about efficacy. Thank you for sharing your solution.

Strange killing the daemons seems to solve the problem while a full reboot does not.

Seems that Auto Resume is also messing up here.

I'm back to the situation where I cant send or recieve files

I opened "file transfers" and it was full of items that were pending

cleared the list, and now when I'm trying to send anything it shows up like this

    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/193/19356046-1.png

    it doesnt even try anymore

    Zero sent, not so helpful

resetting PRAM every week feels bad.
