Q: My iBook will fail to mount when I try to download .dmg?

I bought an iBook G4 used that arrived yesterday, and the first thing that went wrong was Safari kept closing when I went to Google and Youtube. I figured it was an old browser, so when I tried to download a version of Firefox that worked with my system, it failed to mount while preparing the disk image. It gave me a Warning message that said "Disk Images failed to mount" and for reason "Corrupt Image". The exact same thing happened when I tried to download Camino. I am new to Macs and don't know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello

    Welcome to the Support Community.

    The first thing we need to know is what version of the iBook you own and what version of Mac OS X is installed.

    If you click on the Apple logo top left, go to 'About this Mac' let us know what it says, we can then assist you further.

    Hello,

    Try downloading and installing this http://caminobrowser.org/releases/1.6.11/

    If this fails to mount and install, then try repairing disk permissions of your iBook drive.

    To repair disk permissions;

    click go on the top menu, then utilities, click on disk utilities. from the left pane, select the drive. Click repair permissions.

    Best of luck

    It worked! BUT it says Youtube is not compatable with my browser, so do you know of any browsers that would work with my iBook AND Youtube? Thanks!

    One thing your going to struggle to do with a G4 iBook running Mac OS X 10.3.9, is run Youtube videos.

    This is not due to your iBook, but the flash player for the iBook is out of date. The OS is nearly ten years old and the flash plug in, just does not support it.

    If you had Mac OS X 10,4 (Tiger) running on your iBook, then you could download an application called Youview which allows you to watch youtube videos using a third part application.
