ApplicationsLaunch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
ls -OTel Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot. Anonymize your user name, if you wish.

ApplicationsThat's the file Safari bookmarks are stored in, and it was last modified today, not a year ago. Possibly the file is corrupt. You could try restoring it from a backup that predates the issue.

Aug 16, 2012 4:30 PM in response to Linc Davisby markmikaelmuller,OK, very strange. Earlier today I opened the Notepad for the first time after I instralled Mountain Lion a couple of days ago. It asked if it should merge with iCloud which I accepted. After that all my notes from before 2012 dissapeared. And now all my bookmarks from 2012 and forward vanished after midnight. Isn't that a bit strange?
I haven't done any backup for at least 6-7 months, I'm afraid.

ApplicationsiCloud may have synchronized your bookmark file with an older copy on another device.
If you don't back up your data, you will inevitably lose all of it.

I hoped to be able to retreive an automatic back up file from somewhere - but no. Goodbye data.
Thanks a lot for your help.
All the best, Mark
