Q: Capacity Issue

I just bought another iPod shuffle 2G and I am already at full capacity after only adding 115 songs. They range between 2 - 6 minutes so I don't quite understand what is going on?

It's not the length of song that matters but the file size of each song.  My 1GB 2nd gen shuffle (I just checked) currently has 113 songs.  It is full, because I use the Autofill feature to fill it.

Most of my songs are compressed at 256 kbps for "bit rate."  In the "old days" (when that shuffle was brand new), most of my songs were compressed at 128 kbps, so about twice as many songs would fit in the same space.  At 128 kbps, it takes up half the space of the same song at 256 kbps.

If you make a new playlist in iTunes and put the same songs on that playlist, you can check at the bottom of the window to see the total space those songs are using.
