This will restart the iPod (not erase it). If that does not help, you may want to do a Restore on the iPod in iTunes. Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, go to the Summary tab. The Restore button is there. This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set to to default settings. If there was some software or settings glitch causing the problem, a Restore should fix it.
If the problem still recurs, the cause is likely to be a hardware problem. If your nano is less than one-year old, you should have it looked at under warranty.
