it seems I'm also talkin about a different app than you all to. You look like you're dealing with word but I'm dealing with preview and annotating over pics

I suggest trying Skim (http://skim-app.sourceforge.net/). Use "add anchored text", change the background color to white and set line width to 0. The result is a text box with left justified text.

When I was using Preview in Snow Leopard on my old white MacBook there was a Justify button on the Annotate toolbar with the usual Left, Centre and Right options. Now that I'm in Lion on a 2012 MacBook Pro there is no Justify option on the Annotate toolbar and this is very annoying. I rang Apple about it but they weren't able to offer a reason or a workaround for this. The more I move around in Lion the more I wish I was back in Snow Leopard.
My message to Apple: "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

When I began this thread I made a mistake and used the word 'justify' when I actually meant to use the word 'align'. But there do seem to be a lot of people as annoyed as I am about not being able to re-align text in the Annotate feature of Preview. What puzzles me though, is that my text remains stubbornly aligned Left when I want it Centre aligned but other people here are saying they are getting Centre aligned text when they want it Left aligned. I don't understand why Preview seems to be behaving differently for some users.

This is a frustrating little problem. Like redsteven1 I suggest everyone follow this link
and submit the suggestion, remember to include the link to this thread.
I want to believe this is still the Apple where everything that makes sense is included in the program.
BTW Preview 6.0.1 for OS 10.8.4 is a fabulous program with nearly every function I used in Photoshop (for free) and I really love what Apple has done with it over the last few versions, but once you spoil us with everything we want you can't start cutting back without causing severe MICRO-Fatigue. You wouldn't want us to strain something...
