I would test the headset in another source any source which use 3.mm jack will work
and I would verify that they are all the way in

Hi, thanks for suggestion. I tried phone earbuds as well as 2 other types of earbuds, in my computer and they all worked just great. It has to be something with the phone. I also tried someone else's iphone earbuds, today and they didn't work. I guess I'm making an appointment for the apple store.

Howdy, I had the same problem..I purchased a New Iphoneee 4s. my problem was that I did'nt press the connector in all the way..You might want to try this..I felt like a dummy..But it saved a trip to theApple Store..;-}..hope you get it fixed..

oh, i've done it all. it's in completely. i've had this phone maybe a year. it's like a replacement of a replacement of the orignial. so it ***** all the way around. no choice but to go there. thankfully store isn't too far out of way of where i need to go this afternoon. i don't think there's anyway around it. gotta go there. :-(

Well, I went to Apple Store, today and they restored to original settings and earbuds work....YEAH. they think software issue. but now having to setup phone as new and put all apps back into folders. thanks for the suggestions.
