Mail in Mountain Lion is a shambles.

Mail in Mountain Lion is a shambles.  Rules do  not work.  If I receive a mail on one account, when I reply it defaults to my personal mac account, not the account under which the mail was received.  I'm switching to Postbox until Apple sorts out Mail.  The Mail client should at least be on a par with operating system - it's not; it's currently sub-standard and unusable in a professional context using multiple mail accounts.

If you use google mail for your multiple id's and then bring that into a single apple account, that seems to work. Also gives you much better control of spam.

IMHO Mac/Apple Mail is the worst program ever written for anything. Always has been and from what I see in these forums still is and will be in the future.

How do rules not work? They're working fine here.

Regarding the mail replying problem, are the messages that are giving you trouble stored in a mailbox associated with the account that received them? If so, something's wrong on your system. However, there has been a change to how Mail composes replies... if you have moved those messages to an "On My Mac" mailbox, Mail will reply using the account specified in the "Send new messages from" setting in the Composing pane of Mail's preferences.

does this setting need to be looked at? I keep my setting at a default email rathen than a selected mailbox? But fool around with this setting.

I would also eliminate any rules you have.

I disagree. There are many email cliets availabe. I have used them all. Alll have some features over the other, but I prefer the most using Mail. I am not one for cartoons, I like Mail because it is simple, effecient, and exactly what I need. What email client do you use?

Perhaps the disk permissions need to be repaired? (see pic) Screen Shot 2012-08-20 at 7.22.04 AM.png

As for moving mail "onto your mac" this is more of a method to archive, organize or collect. I would avoid using this and only use the mailbox at top.

Also you might want to delete then re add your accounts here:

Others have noted that the "reply from" gets screwed up when replying to emails that have been moved to a folder by a rule.  If the emails have been moved manually, or are in the inbox, then replying is from the correct email address.

This sounds like a bug, but I don't see it because I do all my mail filtering on the server side.

My mail RULES also do not work since" upgrading" to ML.

They all worked perfectly in Lion.

Tried deleting and re-creating them and they still do not work.

What's meant by bringing all gmail accounts into one apple account? I can't imagine the mayhem replying to separate gmail accounts from one apple account - huh?

    Thanks in advance...
