are you using GarageBand on your iMac or on IOS?
In GarageBand in MacOS, have you tried the loops you find, when you set the the Loop Browser to "All Drums"?
That will give you a noce selection of "naked" drum loops. Just drag them to a track in the time line and drag the handle to loop them.

Have you set the "Scale" switch to "Any" and disabled filtering for the loops?
Check the Preferences (GarageBand > Preferences) and in the "Loops" tab disable "Filter for more relevant results".
Also have a look at the signature of your project. There are not many loops for signatures different from 4/4.
With a 4/4 signature you should be able to see 285 items, when you press "reset" and then "All drums". And if you also have the Jam Packs, this should be 2995 items.

yes indeed, the scale is "any" the meter is 4/4 and the loops are set to "all drums".
I would take a pic for you but I'm so new to mac I don't know how to do it! :-)
Is there somewhere I can refresh my content? I will say:
1) This program came free with my iMac
so I'm wondering if I need to pay for the enhanced content.

Just wanted to add an endorsement of Leonie's advice. I'm new to this, too (about 10 weeks now), and I found the drum tracks easily. This might be further evidence that you have something missing. Just sayin'.

Sure, I agree, something is obviously missing from my implementation of GarageBand. So how do I fix it? Is there some "Rhythm Track Download" somewhere?
I see some companies sell rhythm tracks for GarageBand; is that the way to go?
I'll check out the Jam Packs; with 2000+ rhythms I won't miss the 285 I'm supposed to have. :-)

One way to get plenty more instruments and loops would be to buy Mainstage 2 from the AppStore (about 30 $US) . This will install all five JamPacks in a way, that you can use them with GarageBand
too. But something is wrong with your setup. You should be seeing more loops.
One reason might be, that your loops are not indexed properly.
To rebuild your Loop index: Rebuilding the Loop Index
Or your GarageBand Preferences file is broken.
