Aug 22, 2012 4:13 AM in response to Carmanhereby Larry Israel,Is it that their "AOL Desktop for Mac" doesn't work with Mountain Lion, or that you don't like how it functions? Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought you were already running it, but didn't like how it functioned.
Either way, two ideas for you: it might be better to ask their tech support about this. They would know what else is available, when upgrades might be coming, etc.
Second, you should be able to export contacts from AOL to a new email client, and you should be able to export bookmarks as well. That's an extra little speed bump, but once it's done you're back to normal. (Though I also understand about losing a software that has become a very helpful part of your day.)

Aug 22, 2012 11:49 AM in response to Larry Israelby baltwo,According to the download page,
AOL Desktop for Mac runs natively on your PowerPC or Intel-based Mac. The new AOL application runs at full speed on any Mac that supports Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.8 or higher) or Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.3 or higher).
Whether or not it'll run on SL, Lion, or ML, is anyone's guess, but it doesn't look like it's been updated in years. AFAIK, it's not needed.

Aug 22, 2012 4:30 PM in response to Carmanhereby Larry Israel,Is "AOL Desktop for Mac" running on your Mac or not?

Aug 22, 2012 4:31 PM in response to Carmanhereby baltwo,1. Try operating Safari w/o any AOL software.
2. DL Desktop and see if it runs.
3. Follow other hints if one or two doesn't meet your needs.

Aug 22, 2012 7:08 PM in response to Carmanhereby Carmanhere,I have not installed AOL or any part of it to my new IMAC w/Mountain Lion as yet. I don't want to install AOL unless I know that it will work for me.

Aug 22, 2012 8:59 PM in response to Carmanhereby Larry Israel,Then your best option is to call AOL and ask them if it will run on your machine. None of us here use it, so all we can go by is what we find in the tech articles.
I will say that I'm still running some software on my almost new Mac that is 9 years old. It's a case of the older software doing things that the upgrade won't. I need those functions, so I stick with the old software. It works. Not as well as it did when coupled with the OS it was designed for, but it works in a 97% range and I accept a few hassles to keep it going.
If AOL Desktop has not been upgraded to run with Mountain Lion, you might find a similar experience. It might work ok anyway. But I haven't used AOL since 1996, and I never used AOL Desktop, so no promises from me! Again, call them and see what they say. It's their product.

Aug 24, 2012 2:31 PM in response to Larry Israelby Carmanhere,HI ALL.
I think i'll just go to AOL.com to get my email etc, and not install the AOL Desktop. I have a few browsers that I use but I have all my contacts for email so I'll just go to AOL.com to get my email etc.
I want to thank everyone for addressing my question and taking the time to respond. Now, since I am still on the NEW side with my IMAC and this being the first question that I have posted, what should I do or say to everyone that responded to my question.
Thanks again to all for your help.

I'm glad you got it figured out.
As for what to do next, in your view of the thread there should be options for marking helpful answers, and one shot at marking ONE answer as "this solved my question"--if there was such an answer. That will make this thread useful for others with a similar problem.
