Our Mail Search Function no longer works - does anyone have a fix?   the mailboxes have been rebuilt, the envelope files in the library/mail directory have been deleted, and the emails have been re-indexed - still no luck in searching in the mail search feature.  This was never an issure before the upgrade.  Please provide help if you can ~ Thanks!~

What do you mean by 'the emails have been re-indexed'?

Per the various recommendations - I've gone in and rebuilt each mailbox - this was supose to re-index them.  I've also changed the length of time the emails are to stay on the server - as this was a suggestion at one point as well - that if they are deleted from the server, then they may no longer be searchable.   But I've attempted "tests" by doing a search for a word in an email (both in subject and in message) on one that was created that day and still NOTHING.  Also went into the preferences and under the spotlight, added the hard drive and then removed the hard drive so it too could be re-indexed.....still nada....

Had a Mail search problem myself at one time, what fixed it for me was reindexing just my home folder. (Had reindexed my drive a few times before in an attempt to fix ot no avail).

What is conisdered your home folder?  Home folder in the Mailboxes?  Meaning the INBOX?  I have re-indexed every mailbox that is listed in the side bar.  Thanks!

Home folder as in Macintosh HD> Users> PTSHickory....

    Open > System Preferences> Spotlight> Privacy> .......

Click the + button and add your home folder. Log out and log back in again then,

    Open > System Preferences> Spotlight> Privacy> .......

Now remove the home folder using the - button. You should start to hear disk activity and spotlight is now re-indexing. Might take a while. Can't guaranteee but it worked for me.

    Does this link help?

THANKS!  Went thru about 90% of the things listed there.  Am Currently going thru the suggestion of the spotlight rebuild thru the terminal.

When I looked at the settings as stated here: For server-based accounts (IMAP, Exchange, iCloud, and MobileMe), make sure Mail is set to download entire messages—if it doesn’t, Spotlight can’t index them. Go to Mail -> Preferences, click Accounts, select an account, and click Advanced. Make sure the Keep Copies Of Messages For Offline Viewing pop-up menu says All Messages And Their Attachments.

This option is not viewable or available in my Mail Preference Advance screen and the "Keep Copies of Messages for Offline Viewing...." was not listed in any of the windows - went thru each one.  This option was was also mentioned under my "help" - but not finable in the preferences....

    Thanks again....

Hmm, those options are in mine, but only for IMAP accounts of course.

Valient Effort for certain....how do I determine if our mail accounts are IMAP or not?

Under the Account information it is listed as Account type: POP....would this be the culprit of all searching issues?

    Close Mail

    Go to Library/Mail/V2/Mail Data

Move the 3 Envelopes to your desktop

Restart Mail. He will tell you he is importing Mailboxes, it is normal. This will solve it

It didn't solve it for me. I did that and still no searching capability. Nothing shows up when I type even the simplist string into the search window of Apple Mail.
