Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

i remember i was reading dis and also commenting about this issue b4. around page 350+ to 700+ pages.

'btw, my battery now seem's to be Ok. for those who complaining about their battery usage its depend on the usage. For the Info, my lowest or most ugliest bat. stat would be completely drain for 3hrs w/c is heavely usage, 3G, internet games, apps, etc. and the most longest was 4days w/out charging it. using it only text and call per day. lol. my phone sometimes dramatically drain faster like 30% overnight or like 6-7hrs w/o even touching the phone. but that was happen only twice. so far so Good btw my phone is already 5mos old. if any1 need to used it badly and daily, i recommend to charge it daily or every night. most normal usage of my phone only last 7hrs.. =P

This just started happening to my phone too...plus it is really hot...

If the phone is getting hot, you need to PUT IT DOWN!

Even if you have been on it for 5 Minutes, on a heavy usage app the kernel will get hot!

The technician at Apple Store has some software tools to verify if the battery is good. Mine is even though I lost 30% capacity overnight. They advise me to do a full restore. This helps tremendously. With cellular data off, not even 1% is used up overnight. With cellular data on, some 3%. Cellular data seems to be the culprit . At areas where reception is bad, the phone just boosts the power to stay in touch with the network. This is where it drains the battery tremendously. Does this explain the intermittent nature of the problem ?

Hey guys! I recently bought an iPhone 4S through eBay. I have been testing the phone for days and has performed great. Today the battery is discharged quickly. I was using an application to use it as flashlight. I knew that the application would consume part of the battery, but not discharged (when I checked the percentaje, of 100% left it by 13% in almost an hour!!). It really lasts such a short the battery?

It is likely that something was running, trying to end, or complete, and couldn't.  Glad you got it resolved.

Are you saying you left the light on for an hour?  If so, that is the reason for the battery drain.  The LED was intended to provide light for a very short time while a photo was taken.  Using it for a flashlight wasn't really part of the design plan, so high battery drain wasn't something the designers worried about.  You could probably take enough flash pictures to fill your memory and not use the light for more than a minute.

SOLUTION that worked for me.

Issue: I was lossing charge at a rate of almost 25% in an hour.

Solution: Restored my iphone 4S as a new device (don't use your backup to restore the 4S). It may be a little bit of a hassel but in the end I think it is better than lossin my battery charge at that rate.

Once you have restored the phone just select the email and contacts and other good stuffs from your itune and sync your 4S like that.

Now its been 24 hours since I did the restore and I see a significant difference, I only have a lose 5% charge in a 3 hours of phone use. (iMessaging, and emails, no phone calls yet)

Question for you Chris Schoeneman.  I am experiencing a recent-onset massive battery drain (about 20% an hour in standby with no third party apps installed), and wanted to try your MMS APN solution.  I'm feeling pretty dumb right about now, but I cannot locate the area you are referring to in order to make the change.  When I go to Settings > General > Network, I have no selection for "Cellular Data Network".  Is there a chance I am on a different iOS than you?  I'm using iOS 5.1.1.  When I go to Settings > General > Network, all I see are toggle switches for "Cellular Data" and "Data Roaming"; an area to "Set Up Personal Hotspot"; and settings for "VPN" and "Wi-Fi".  Any pointers you could give me might possibly save my sanity.  Thank you for your time.

See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2283?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.  That page notes that not all carriers will permit changing the APN but in that case you might be able to use the iPhone Configuration Utility to change it.  I have to refer you to Apple's documentation on that.

Note that I changed the APN only to force PDP contexts to be flushed.  If you can find another way to flush PCP contexts (try google) it would be equivalent to changing the APN.

Ah!  Thank you, Chris.  ATT must not allow me to play in that sandbox.  I appreciate your clarification.  I'll do some further research on an equivilent solution, and report back if I find anything.
