Q: unable to convert postscript file

Trying to print from Quicken running in Win 7 under Parallels.  Seems to function correctly through WIN, but in Mac print queue, generates the error "Unable to Convert Postscript File"  What gives?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

You do know that you can get a version of Quicken 2007 that runs natively in Mountain Lion for $15.

    Lanny,

Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately, the Mac version of Quicken is completely unacceptable.  It just doesn't have the capabilities of the PC version.  Indeed, the fact the current version is dated 2007 tells you something about the level of support Intuit gives this product.

If it Quicken for Mac worked halfway decently, I would not be in this situation!

    Thanks

    Hugh

I think Quicken is using their own print library that may be adding artifacts to the postscript code that the Mac printer drivers cannot digest. Or, are you using a printer with postscript level 2 emulation and Quicken is sending postscript level 3 love?

Current on Parallels and Quicken software updates? Mountain Lion printer drivers for your device?

What about printing directly to postscript into a shared Mac folder, then opening that file with either Preview (will convert to PDF) or Adobe Reader 10.1.4 on Mountain Lion. You might need latest Ghostscript, Redmon, and CutePDF Writer -- all free on the Win 7 side to direct output to a virtual postscript or PDF printer from within Quicken.

I looked at the Intuit forums and their are dozens of pages reflecting printer issues with Quicken. This appears to be the application from ****.

Hope you aren't on the billable clock with these issues.

    Viking,

    Thanks for your comments.

All software is up to date as of yesterday, including the most recent updates to the HP printer drivers under Mountain Lion.

I am using an HP Officejet Pro 8000 A809 printer.  While it can operate wireless, it is wired to my iMac.

Your solution to print to a shared file then Preview printing it on the Mac side may be what I have to do until the real problem is solved.  This problem does seem to be generating some comment on Apple Support blogs and communities.  But you are also right about Intuit's generating loads of printing problems with Quicken.  Have been there before.

Am trying to print checks, rather than a report.  So precision placement of the data is important.

Fortunately I am only on my own clock on this one.  Unfortunately, I am on my own clock on this one!!

Thanks for the suggestion.  Will look into it.

Though the steps below mention Windows 8, I hope this is helpful as a workaround. I have not tried this, and I don't have Windows to test this, so there may be some differences in terminology.

One can manually setup the printer with a PS driver.  In order to do so one would follow the following steps:

    1. Open Control Panel in Windows 8

    2. Under Hardware and Sound, click on View devices and printers

    3. Select the printer under the Printers header

    4. Open Properties for the Printer (click on the printer, then hit Shift+F10 and select Properties)

    5. Click on the Advanced Tab

    6. Under Driver you can select the PS Class Driver for the printer if it is installed (If it is not installed you will have to go through the installation process from either a disc or from the vendor website).

    Hope this helps.

    John and others,

    Thanks all for your help.

I tried the work around of 'printing' to a *.pdf file within WIN 7, then transferring the file and printing it under Mountain Lion.  Once this worked, I knew Quicken was not the source of the problem.

So I went back to Parallels to delete and re-install the printer, using Bonjour as they recommended.  This solved the problem entirely.

    Thanks!

Although it is a nice workaround you mention but in windows 7 it is much better to install PCL driver and totally skip installing any PS driver as they never work for me.
