Q: Can't connect wirelessly to the router. Help/advice sought.

In my network preferences, the airport tab is yellow with the words 'no IP address', and I cannot connect to the internet. When I clicked on advanced and go to the TCP/IP, there is no info in the IPv4 Address and Subnet Mask fields. I click on 'Renew DCHP lease' and some information magically appears. Then the information next to the wireless tab displays (still in yellow) 'self assigned IP' but there's still no internet and an exclamation mark in the wireless icon.
Is this a red herring? What could the problem be? Mighten there be some patch or some such? I don't get how the wireless can just 'stop working' when there's not been any changes and it's not particularly windy in here.

Aug 25, 2012 10:54 AMby CMCSK,Change your router channel. Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router. Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.
System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
Unlock the padlock
Locations: Automatic
Highlight Airport
Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock. Highlight Airport. Network Name-select your name. Click on the Advanced button. Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined." Click the OK button and lock the padlock. Restart your computer.

No internet connection (wireless)
Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."
