Press Command Spacebar and type Messages into the spotlight search.  It should be the first hit.  Start it there and right click it's icon on the dock and select Options > Keep in Dock.

    It's called messages, not imessage.

    Hi,

What did you Upgrade from ?

If it was Lion then you had iChat 6.

iChat 6 should have been in the Applications Folder before the Upgrade.

If you had deleted that app or moved it to inside another folder (say one for a collection of Messaging apps) then the Upgrade process will not "see" it can it will not be replaced as part of the Upgrade.

Most Apple Apps require them to be in the Applications Folder and no deeper (not inside other folders) and for the Original App to also be there.

If you have the iChat 6 app place it in the Applications folder, "loose", as it were and then do a Reinstall.
