Mar 18, 2011 6:23 AM in response to TikiKingby rovingeyes,Thanks Sean, this does indeed work! First programmed my AV1 to 20675 code, and then used AV1 again to "learn" the Apple TV (2nd gen) remote using my DirecTV remote's up/down/left/right/menu/select keys, quite simple and took just a minute! I called both companies and they had no clue, so glad I can still do everything from my DirecTV remote, without having to spend $200 for a Harmony remote -
Mar 24, 2011 12:43 PM in response to rovingeyesby sapulpasam,So it looks like you can use the DirecTV remote to control Apple TV. That's great and clears up that confusion nicely.
But the one remaining question I have, is does it only work on IR, or does it work with RF too? Since I have my components hidden, it's only beneficial to me with RF. -
May 20, 2012 3:39 PM in response to Sean280ZXby Thomas Riffle,I would just like to add my THANKS to Sean280X & JasonWDC. I've been trying to get my DirecTV
remote to work on my Apple TV for weeks. This sure beats using multipal remotes.

Aug 28, 2012 12:57 AM in response to Sean280ZXby Richard Vigil,Sean, you are AWESOME!!! DirecTV replaced my old remote and I programmed the new one for my TV, DVD player, and then it went downhill. Trying to reprogram the new remote for AppleTV kept giving me the **** message about the second button being programmed already. I used your disney code in the remote, then went to learn remote, and it took the new DirecTV remote AV1 like the old one did. I've been fighting this for the entire day (about 13 hours). Finally I searched google and it led me here. The search was "button already learned".
Thank you for fixing this for me.
And it involed my 1st Gen AppleTV.
Sincere regards,
rv…

Nov 8, 2012 6:09 PM in response to Sean280ZXby MFMauceri,Sean280X-
Your solution wotked like a charm for me. I've found it might not work on the first try, and you have to hold the button-to-be-programmed down until it either learns it or gives you and error message.
Disney makes a DVD? Who knew?
Now, if anyone can tell me what DirecTV Remote buttons to use for chapter skip forward and skip back, that would be swell. ONE REMOTE RULES THEM ALL.
Thanks!

Sep 2, 2013 11:00 AM in response to MFMauceriby AwwwPuddin,Through trial and error I found that 22434 (a Phillips DVD code) has all of the buttons as the Disney DVD code plus support for the chapter advance and skip back buttons! My RC65 DirecTV remote now has working buttons for basic navigation and playback in AV1 mode. Very happy with the results!

Nov 12, 2013 11:28 AM in response to rovingeyesby tirestreak,All your posts crack me the **** up.
The answer is...No
If you have the direct TV remote control that comes with the device and and you try to set it up to control an Apple TV, it will not now, nor has it ever worked. Some after market remotes will work, notably the harmony, but under no circumstances will the stock remote that comes with the dish system, ever work with the Apple TV.
Dish's remotes are so bad, you'll be lucky if you can fully control your tv!
