when they are using wifi it should be transparent if you're in different countries
to troubleshoot I would try to see if the skype app works if it does it's a iMessage issue

Yes, the Tango App, similar to Skype, is working fine

Anybody with a similar issue, I thought I'd update the question. We tried all of the suggested fixes (resetting phone, resetting time and date, toggling Imesage and FaceTime off and on etc.) numerous times without any joy so I'm very thankful for Whatsapp and Tango (no, not a new cop show!). My wife returned to the uk last night and immediately FaceTime and IMessage began to work? Can only surmise its something to do with Apple and Turkey? But for the alternative Apps we'd have been well and truly stuffed!

Thanks Peter, yes we did go through the processes provided in this link, but without any joy and eventually gave up.

Not really a reply. Am trying to find out if FaceTime is chargeable with 3G to & from Turkey thanks.
