    Thank you Tom,

I came actually from this link. The device I have doesnt appear on the list. Is the list up to date? Do you know anyone using this video card with FCPX?

    Thanks again

I'm using the GTX 570 2.5GB model with FCPX, no problems to report. To get OpenCL support out of it, you need to modify the OpenGL driver file. Here's a good MacRumors post about it from MacVidCards, the guy who flashes these "unsupported" cards for Mac.

Keep in mind, if you're running Mountain Lion there will be a difference in the hex string that you need to edit. For that, check out: http://netkas.org/?p=1161

Hopefully this helps. The 570 works great in the Mac Pro and I've had absolutely no problems. It's definitely fantastic if you use Resolve, Premier, After Effects, and other graphics programs, or if you like to game.

Remember to download the Quadro drivers for the card. ML has drivers already for the GTX 5xx and 6xx series, but the Quadro driver is going to be your more up-to-date version.

    Thank you Chase,

We are going to try this week installing the video card. I have a technician who is going to do the job. After that I will post the results here.

      Greetings

    Chase,

Can I ask whether you are using the GTX 570 2.5Gb as the only card in the Mac?

Do you have monitors attached to it, and if so how many and with what connections?

    Thanks

In addition to the 570 I also have a MacVidCards GT120 1GB. I have a Dell Ultrasharp U3011 running over DVI from the 570 and I have two 1080p Viewsonic monitors that I run from the 120 over DVI as well. All in all, the setup will allow me four displays. I've done it before but I just don't have the desk space.

So, do you think running the Dell U3011 from the card reduces the performance significantly?

From what I've seen so far, I don't feel like it's impacting my performance. But I'm sure pushing that many pixels has some effect. For CUDA users, especially in Resolve, I've seen the GT120 being used as the GUI card and the 570/580/Q4000 being used solely as a CUDA processor without any displays hooked up to it. I use CUDA in Premier and AE and OpenCL for FCPX and Photoshop, but I also boot into Windows to game. I made the decision to put the Dell on my 570 so I could utilize it and the more powerful card for my games.

I'd say if you're looking for the utmost performance in pro apps use the 570 solely as a CUDA card. However, I haven't noticed much of a bottleneck.
