iTunes match stuck

I am trying to initiate iTunes Match and my computer gets to step 2: Matching your music with songs in the iTunes Store. It got to a certain # and then acted like it was frozen - the # didn't change until I hit Stop (after staring at it for an hour) and started all over, only to stop again at that same spot. iMac, OSX 10.8.1
