The mail dissepearing is still a main issue that only occurs when adding 2 accounts to the SAME SERVER name!!!

on my iMac i have this also in version 10.7.xxxx

with the update 10.8.1 you can bypass it by uncheck the autodiscovery

how i solved it is to adding one (personal) account to the external servername and the second (info) account on the internal name

    so totaly different name server

running it for a week now without any problem

for my macbook this won't work

So what is the trick now?  I have tried so many differnet ways, Autodiscovery, No Autodiscover, internal server, no internal server, external server, no external server, used both.....etc..etc. But nothing works, I get all my folders but only half of them have been populated and the main inbox never downloads anything.  But I do agree that the Autodiscovery check box seems to work backwards.  I only updated my MacBook Pro to see how ML works before I updated my iMac (Luckily), has anyone found a way to make this work?  I tried modifiing the etc/hosts file as well but to no avial.

This is really frustrating APPLE! Please fix it!! I'm having to use Microsoft Outlook for the time being, but doesn't help with my calender and contacts sync.

Seems like the only thing they updated on the Mail App was add the Autodiscovery checkbox but nothing else.

I share txpilot's frustration.  Mail worked like a dream on Lion, and is still working on iOS so this is DEFINITELY a problem with ML.  Despite downloading the update, I still have unpopulated folders, and whilst the workarounds are appreciated, I am not technically proficient enough to be able to use them.  Apple sells itself on the basis that it is simple to use (and is often a major reason given for the closed standard they operate with regard to their software), so I would be loathe to bother with workarounds anyway, as it kinda defeats one of the objects of buying a MacBook in the first place.

I am NOT impressed - Apple need to pull their fingers out of their butts and use them to sort the problem rather than using them to point at others and blame them.

Have you tried installing the account(s) as IMAP or Exchange IMAP instead of Exchange? I'm not sure if this will help if you have calendars and contacts from multiple accounts, but, at least for mail, it seems to work pretty well (for me). Right now I am checking two exchange accounts. One is set up as an Exchange account as normal, the other I set up as Exchange IMAP. Both are working just fine without the vanishing messages problem (which I did have when I tried to set them both up as Exchange).

Hi all, after 10.8.1 I can't even connect to the server....  Tried to delete the account and install again but it fails auth...

Where is that autodiscover checkbox I am reading about, I really can't find it....

Also can't quit Outlook, always need to Force quit....

    Any ideas?

Michael is right, was my mistake to post this here... I will not make any more comments here.

Just to answer your question, I managed to connect by entering the server manualy.

Below is the address of my other issue with attachments which was not working before 10.8.1 and it is not working even now.

To All, I have been trying to set up my Exchange connection every day or so since 10.8.1 came out and not had much luck. Well, last night I went back through all the previous messages from this message board and removed everything I had used from everyone's previous suggestions. I then tried setting up my account again and did use the new check box to turn off autodiscovery. I only use a remote connection to my hosted email server so I used my external sever name in both server names fields. I then checked Conatcts and Calendars to make sure I have the same external server name in both of these app settings. Everything seems to be working including Contacts and Calendars.

Also thanks to txpilot for the info for IOS 6.

I have had great success with the 10.8.1 update.  My Mail application is now stable.  I can search on Exchange folders and my folders no longer appear empty.

I never had all the issues with the auto-discovery that others had.  I guess our Exchange admins have things configured correctly.

    Good luck all

Since the patch I set up my internal server to match what the initial Autodiscovery feature found, and then unchecked the box so that it didn't switch.  When I called GoDaddy they were unable to tell me what server I was on, or should be on - the tech told me that he kept getting a blank response when trying to determine what host server I was actually using, so he suggested not using autodiscover.

I have not had any problems since setting both of my computers up this way.  As others who spoke to Apple directly would attest, this particular thread was instrumental in researching the problem and putting out the patch.  I know it hasn't been 100% successful, but I hope that they will get there.

Even though Apple doesn't (ever) admit fault, it seems that they do recognize when something needs to change and they do silently listen to affected users and take corrective action.  It's what I love and hate about them.

Thank you to everyone who posted suggestions, workarounds, theories, rants, raves, and educated and uneducated bashings.  These forums do make a difference.

I am still having several issues with my hosted exchange account through GoDaddy.  Folders will appear empty (that are definitely not).  Messages will still show in the "sent" or "trash" folders even though they are no longer there on the server.  If I try to move or delete them, I get an error message stating that they cannot be moved.

Basically, the update/patch didn't seem to fix anything for me.

I have to constantly delete the account and re-add it to keep normal functionality.

I updated to ML about a week ago and have been experiencing problems with Mail ever since. My college email is set up as an Exchange account and my messages are not showing up the inbox. I have to type in my college email in the search box instead - they show up there, but nothing in the inbox. I also can't delete my messages. When I try to, it says "5 messages cannot be moved to Trash." My other accounts (gmail, iCloud) are working fine - it's just the Exchange account I'm having difficulties with. I've had 3 Genius Bar appointments in the last week and no success whatsoever - even after doing the update (10.8.1). So, I called my campus IT today and they helped me set my email up as an IMAP account through Google, but that didn't solve the problems either. Now when I search for my college email, it brings up all the emails I've received within the past year (when I first bought my computer). Emails I received yesterday do not show up anymore. My phone and iPad work fine - it's just my MacBook Pro that I'm having these issues with and no one (Apple or IT) knows what is wrong with it. Very frustrating...my computer is my life and not being able to access my emails is incredibly frightening. I appreciate any advice or help you can offer. Thanks!

It seems Outlook 2011 is working just fine in the meantime, I know this is not an option for some but something to consider.
