Did you install 10.8 client? or 10.8 Server?
I don't know that it would make a difference, but I wouldn't be surprised to find 10.8 client doesn't support processor lights since no other machine has them. Of course, they might have also taken it out of Server, but I haven't tried.
It does seem a little odd, though. I'd kind of assumed this was controlled by the firmware, not by the host OS.

It is 10.8 Server.
I also assumed that the CPU lights were managed by EFI or something, but apparently not.
