I have my ipad2 9 months now and only last 2 months it starts to freeze (every 2 minutes)every catch up, you tube movie.
However streaming of live programs is not to bad and often i can watch them without freezing up.
The reason i have an ipad isbecuase of watch catch up programs on itv, bbc, 4od, etc.
I NEED a fix!!!!

You have a network issue if it doesn't happen with the dedicated video player. Try a different network. If that fails, hard reset. If that fails, restore it as a new device. If that fails, go to the genius bar and see if they can find anything hardware related or simply swap it out.

Bought the new iPad, fails just like the original. CNN CBS fox doesent matter. Runs a few seconds then stops. Watched 2 hours last night on laptop untilmate 7. Same network no problems. Useless for video. Really disappointed to see it has been happening forever with no fix. I've been a Microsoft hater forever, but at lease it works!

...Runs a few seconds then stops.
You should check a couple things:
Storage (disk space) left on you iPad: Settings > General > Storage (you'll have probs if this is shy - video needs space)
Memory: Really quit all open apps:
- While on main screen Double click Home button
- now touch and hold one of the Apps. (You should see 'jiggling apps' at bottom of screen)
- Click the circle with the minus sign on it. for each app
Even if this doesn't fix your current problem. It's worth knowing, and one of the 2 (normally memory) is often the cause of App crashes.

I just picked up a new IPad 16GB, I've updated the software, my home wifi is working properly, just attempted to watch a video on YouTube and it kept freezing, again this is a brand new unit, so I fail to understand why I am having this problem, I was able to watch the video on my 6 year old laptop without issue, if this persist I might just take this back and exchange for a new laptop.

I got my ipad on launch day and it has been freezing on videos since the start. I have tried various apps including the You Tube that ships with the ipad and can only get maybe 5 to 10 seconds to run before it freezes.

Sorry you are having to same issues, personally I was disappointed with the new iPad, due to the fact it kept freezing while attempting to watch videos on YouTube
I ended up returning it to best buy, since it did not meet my needs.
Not bashing the unit, it was just not for me

This is day 3 with my new ipad, all the bells and whistles and the retina screen, the latest model, I have an imac and use my daughter's Air a lot; I am really disappointed...it has started freezing frequently and stopped playing short videos, like you tube, just goes dead. I am no nerd...I have done a couple of restarts by holding both the buttons down, it will clear it for a little while.
I did download Opera web browser tonight and that may have made it much worse (I could not stand safari and the deluge of ads ***that jump all over the screen at the slightest touch, especially as your fingers are within a hair's breadth of the edge that lights them up)(cause I like sprawling on the couch in front of the open fire while the hubby watches sport)...so far not a happy camper...wish I had found a few extra bucks and bought an 11" Air instead....grrrrr
***I particularly loathe the trackers that even figure out your age and start bombing all this age and gender specific crap...I got rid of it on the other macs but ipad won't let me
Anyway I bought it for web browsing, movies watching, music playing etc, and I can't see how it is going to be any good with the freezing, stopping, etc.

Obviously your iPad keeps freezing because when iOS iDevices were created, the CEO Steve Jobs complained that the Mac kept crashing on adobe flash player rendering that problem makes it for all apple devices meanin that without adobe you cannot watch YouTube videos or any video apps no matter the circumstances (in other words, it happens in apple iPod and iPhone also)

I am having this same problem! My iPad is only a few months old and I cannot watch YouTube videos! It plays for a few seconds and freezes. Really frustrating and disappointing as I thought iPad was technologically advanced! I see this thread goes back to 2010 - why hasn't Apple fixed the problem?

It's not a network issue because I can watch YouTube videos on my iPhone and MacBook Pro without any problems, on the same wireless network. But I did call the provider to be sure and they ran some tests, and there are no issues with my wireless network. This problem happens with every video I try to watch on YouTube - only plays a few seconds then stops.
