sd card reader not working

Look in Finder's preferences. Finder > Preferences > General tab > check all the items. Do the same in the sidebar tab if desired.

I found that unlocked, my Eye-Fi card should only be inserted 20-22mm into the card reader (not all the way). Locked, it seemed to work fine inserted all the way.

My Macbook Pro (2011) would recognize the SD card, but would only allow Read Only. There are many other threads on the Apple Discussions about this, and most people who have had this problem seem to solve it by sliding the lock switch half way on the SD card.

This did not work for me! However, sliding the SD card not quite all the way in does

Worked for me too - thanks icanseeclearlynow. Must be some lever or gizmo getting sloppy inside the MacbookPro.

I just encountered this problem for the first time today (4/9/14) A quick Google search brought me to this thread. I just wanted to say that @icanseeclearlynow helped solve my problem. Wouldnt read all the way in.. so i tried insering it about 90% of the way and it worked. Weird that I had to do that.. every other card seems to work fine. Anyways... Thank you 😉

My late 2011 MacBook Pro stop recognizing my SD cards when I inserted them as always. However, the trick of pulling out the card slightly resulted in it being recognized. Strange that it now requires this 'trick' but as long as it works I'm OK with it. Thanks to all the posters for bringing this to my attention.
