I have the iphone 4s, since updating to the IOS 5.1.1 a few days ago, I have not been able to connect to my home network. (wifi).  I have searched the forums and tried resetting the modem, resetting the network settings on my phone. I even restored my iphone in the hope that would work (it didnt!). I have been tearing my hair out on this one, most annoyingly is the fact my ipod touch would connect no problem! anyway, I have managed to fix the problem and it has worked. My last ditch attempt, I logged on the router and checked wireless settings....I came across mac filter settings, on this a mac address was on the list of clients to block, with a quick check on my iphone..surprise surprise matching mac address. I simply removed the mac address from block list and now have wifi!!!

I hope this helps someone, as I wasted 2 days trying to figure out what was going wrong!

Why people missing the point of this discussion in this forum: we are not talking about weak wifi or the search on the wifi is not fully function,

The problem in this discussion is the wifi itself is gone, no icons, not listed in the setting,  it look like there is no wifi device installed so please keep write about this issue only,

SuzeRam, I fully agree with you.

Now, unless the upgrade to 5.1.1 has actually damamged the HW (which I doubt) - This is a SW issue and as such can be fixed.

I'm very much against jailbreaking - But I feel that I'm being pushed by Apple to try downgrading the HW version. I don't want to do that though. Any offficial response by Apple could help me understand where I'm standing.

Hello APPLE, ARE YOU THERE? Can you please refer to the issue?

P.S. I've also contacted Apple support and was told that "This is the first time they get such a report". Come on... Google it!!

After three days of nothing, my Wi-Fi has magically begun to find networks and connect again.  No further troubleshooting or tinkering was done. Still on iOS 5.1.1

I had a problem a few months ago with my volume not working on my iphone 4s. Last month I was able to replace my phone with a new phone. Now all of a sudden it doesn't pick up on any wi-fi networks. It says that it can't scan any. I'm starting to get very aggravated with apple now. If they know that they have lots of hardware issues, they should start repairing them. I shouldn't have to go to an apple store every time that my phone malfunctions. The closest location of an apple store from my house is about half an hour or more. The phone shouldn't be malfuctioning at all! There should be a quick fix to any of the hardware issues. These phones are not inexpensive so apple needs to really find a solution for all of their problems!

Hi there. So today I went into my local Apple store and talk to them about the greyed out wifi problem. The guy I talked to said that I should take the phone home and try and restore it through itunes. I did this but the greyed out wifi is still there. He told me if this happened to bring the phone back because it is a HARDWARE issue and they would replace the phone. So I will be taking the phone back in a couple of days and report back how that goes. Sounds like there are just a bunch of faulty phones that got released but will know more when I get mine in a few days. Keep ya all posted. God bless.

Problem solved. I was recommended by a non Apple consultant to manually change the radio channel. Channel 11 worked.

Finally!!! I foudn something that works for me. I had the No Wifi (grayed out) and not bluetooth after the 5.1.1 upgrade.

In any case, here is what I did (hopefully it holds)

    1. Turned on "Airplane Mode"

    2. Powered phone off (not the reset, but power off)

    3. Took the SIM card out (once it was off)

    4. Turned phone on

    5. Put sim card in (it ask to activate phone)

    6. Asked to turn "Airplane Mode" on

    7. Tuned on, then asked to Join network

    8. It worked!

OK so this worked for me:

after like five restore I decided to leave the iphone alone for a couple of days and after 1 and a half weeks i restored it and wifi and bluetooth were working again.

    Hope this works/Regards
