Q: IP Configurations
I'm in a building that has one modem somewhere and ethernet outlets in every studio that all use the same IP address configured manually. My husband is in one studio and I am across the hall. I took his computer into my studio and connected it using my ethernet cable because I just had my hard drive replaced and had not yet connected the new hard drive to the internet. Later I copied the IP configuration from his computer to mine and now my new hard drive is connected. but when we took his computer back to his studio and plugged it into his ethernet outlet with his cable, a warning appeared saying "your IP configuration is already in use by 00:23:32:9d:99:7a. I didn't change anything on his computer, but nevertheless I tried making a new location with all the correct numbers, and the same thing happened again...it never happend before. I tried turning the firewall off, and then back on, no change. every time I unplug and replug the ethernet cable into the computer the same warning appears any ideas? thank you!

You can't have had the same IP address for your PowerBook on the same network without getting that error.
As you can't have two devices with the same IP address on a single network.
You may have had something like device IP address 10.25.256.30 and your husband having 10.25.256.31
You maybe getting the configuration confused with DHCP or the router address being the same.
