Q: Why aren't my macbook showing at other people's Shared folder?

Hi,

I have read all the the topics regarding the sharing option. Having turned it on, i am still having problems to connect to other computers.

When other people try to find my computer, they are not able to see it.
Does anyone know what might be happening?

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

It might help if you include more details.  For example:

    1. Are the people trying to access your shared folders using Mac OS X or Windows?  Either way, which version?

    2. Are they on the same network as your computer or are they trying to access it over the internet?

    3. For that matter, is it a "they" or is it just one person who has tried to access your files?  If it's just one, it's possible it's a problem on that person's end.

    4. Are you on a wireless connection (wi-fi) or wired (ethernet) connection?

Also I just noticed your tags indicate you're using Mountain Lion, but you posted this in the OS Lion forum, which may make it harder or slower to get the right answer.

Also have you enabled any System Preferences -> Sharing services?

Mac OS X Bonjour only advertises your Mac if you have services to offer.

Also do you have your System Preferences -> Security -> Firewall enabled?
