Q: After OSX reinstall, cannot enter WPA2 password on Powerbook G4.

In anticipation of selling my 12-inch G4 PowerBook, I reinstalled OSX 10.3 (the original OS) after a "erase and install" using the Disk Utility. There were some issues with the original install disk, but Matt at the Genius Bar got me up and running. I had no trouble with internet access on the open network at the Apple Store.

After returning home (and 20+ attempts) I have been unable to access the internet on my home wifi network to do software updates.

I have upgraded to 10.4 then 10.5, but am only given the option to enter a WEP password to join my wireless ntework.

I am using a Time Machine and a WPA2 Personal password. Although I realize this may be the problem, I do not understand why the Powerbook had no connection issues prior to the reinstallation! Please, help!

If I remember correctly, WPA2 support was added to OS X 10.4, so with that or 10.5 you should be able to access a WPA2-encrypted network.

Do you have an ethernet cable that you can use to attach to your wireless router, so you can do Software Update? Either that or download the 10.5.8 combo update from the Apple download site and apply that. If you go that route, use Disk Utility to repair permissions, apply the update, then use Disk Utlitiy again to repair permissions.
