    Hi

    • Brand of DVD used ?

    • Type of DVD used e.g. DVD+RW ?

    • Burn Speed set to ?

    • long time since a Cleaning DVD was used ?

    • does it burn CDs OK ?

    • free space on Start-Up Hard Disk ? (IMPORTANT - as this space can not be taken elsewhere due to UNIX (Mac OS))

    • Brand is pretty budget I think, should I invest in higher valued ones will this burn it?

    • DVD +

    • NOt sure of speed how do I tell?

    • No just had my DVD drive cleaned out, as I changed the Ram in my Laptop, could that be the problem?

    • NOt sure if it burns cd's, haven't done that in a long time.

    • And I am Backing everything up onto a external drive and getting source from there also. 280 gigs free

    • apparently on the external drive?

    Cheers

I only use Verbatim - burning Video-DVDs on a Mac use to be critical to media so Memorex, NoNames etc use NOT to work

    • DVD +

DVD+R or RW. RW whatever use not to work. I use DVD-R as they play on even Older DVD-Players

    • NOt sure of speed how do I tell?

Due to DVD Authoring program used - I can not tell. In iDVD You go to iDVD Pref and Advance and here I set it to x2 or x4 - as the x16 etc use to result in BAD DVDs. Saving as a DiskImage then using Disk Util tool to burn the DVD also let's You set down speed = Less burn errors

Depends on how it was done - Killed a Mac by cleaning it out with a Vacuum-cleaner (Hower). I use a Cleaning DVD (no liquid one) from time to time.

Just a way to see if it's OK at all

Only the Start-Up (Mac OS) one is of importance - as Mac OS is UNIX and behaves likewise. It and Application needs lot's of space for temp. files to run OK and they ONLY CAN be stored on BOOT HARD DISK. I never go under 25Gb free space when doing SD-Video (old 4x3 CRT-TV quality). IF HD-Video I guess that 4-5 times more will be a good minimum.

I'd suggest you run Repair Permissions in Disk Uttity and then see whether it can see your drive. If that doesn't work, have your drive checked out.
