my new macbook pro retina is about 2 months old and already something has gone wrong inside.  On the left side of the laptop there is a constant rattling noise like a fan isn't working properly.  I've stopped using to make sure it's not causing any other damage.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Not happy at all!

I have the same problem. Had my retina MBP for 6 weeks and just started yesterday. Low buzz that is really annoying.

If this were my machine, I would take it in to an Apple store or AASP to have the problem fixed. Although you are out of the 14 day no-questions-asked return period, your machine has a 1 year warranty and should be fixed. This problem is serious - those fans are what keep your mbp innards from melting!

I just started having the same problem yesterday. This is already my third MBPR, the first two had screen issues. Have you figured out the left fan issue? Thank you!

I have the same problem with my Macbook Pro Retina today. When I sat in the quiet room to work, I notice the sound was really annoying. My MBPR is just 6-7 weeks old.

I started having the same problem after a week. My noise is coming from the right side of the machine. It comes on rarely, but when it does it is loud and annoying, especially since I want to use the MBPR for recording.

Will be taking it in tomorrow.

Same issue.  This is crazy, first Chrome crashes my computer every 5 minutes now this.

Same problem too. I received my new rMBP yesterday, and it did that annoying noise from the right side of the machine when I first turned it on... Really not happy about this.

I tried a PRAM and SMC reset, which I thought solved the problem, but then the noise came back every time I move the machine around. Turning it back on this morning, the noise was there constantly again.

Did anyone manage to get the problem fixed, or is the only solution to replace the machine?

Try downloading SMCfanControl app for your MBPRetina. That may give you an idea what's going on with your fans.

You can also control you macs fan speed as well.

If the noise continues, it could be a faulty thermal sensor.

    Give it a go.

    Thanks, I will try tonight.

Yup, I'd go to an Apple Store ASAP, there sounds like a definite problem with the logic board sensing temperature and activating fans for cooling.

This is more than likely causing your CPU to thermal panic.

Mr.Da is totally correct! Go now before you have further problems.

So mine is making a really loud crackling sound on the right side, as soon as I log into any kind of game it intensifies.  Moreover I also have the graphics issue where the graphics card seems to randomly stop working and I have to do an SMC reset.  Lastly I have two massive white dead pixels in the centre of my screen (clusters of pixels?)

Unfortunately I can't take the macine in until December but frankly I will refuse to leave the store until Apple agree to replace it.  Absolutely livid with this piece of junk.

Got mine fixed by Apple by the way. The rattling noise was due to a faulty fan. No noise anymore, but weirdly, I've never seen my fans go higher than 2100rpm even when the machine reached 55 degrees celsius. I hope this is normal, but I'm afraid spending thousands on a brand new laptop that arrives to you already faulty has made me slightly paranoid... Apple, if you hear me, that's no good for your brand.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I've had my rMBP since June and have not had any issues listed in this thread.

But you should definitely take it in to an Apple Store and have them diagnose the issue or replace it. You're still under warranty.

Apple replaced my fan.  The noise is gone now.  Problem solved for me.
