Sorry if this has been asked before but is Logic Pro X due out soon?

Do apple offer discount for upgrades say from LP 9 to LP 10

Best regards

Oh no, please, not another thread like this...

On the other hand, the link that slavestate has provided does show something interesting, unfortunately my German is virtually non-existent as far as the article goes, but the photographic stills seem to show something that isn't Garageband ?

I can't say I've really agreed with the concept of Logic being 'Garagebandised', which has been a suggestion on this forum since L8 - making the GUI better can only be a good thing as long as functionalities are maintained and added to, which seems to have been the case when Logic 9 was released - the few additional features that were there (Flex, Bounce in Place etc.), were, in fact, really useful for most people, so I think the next version of Logic is still likely to contain some significant development of the software in some way or other.

It seems like the company haven't given the human resources to Logic development for some time since they're obviously in pursuit of some kind of capitalistic world domination, which is a function of certain people within that particular organisation, but I still think there's a good chance there'll be some good stuff to come - surely getting Andrea Gozzi from Redmatic has to be a good sign, but, of course, I don't really know.

The Apogee Quartet looks really good for an expanding home studio - I don't think it would be that bad an idea to have more integration with Apogee/MOTU/RME to develop a 'whole' product that people could buy and know that it all works together seamlessly, it's not that crazy, is it ?

That looks very intersting indeed, it's definitely a Logic hybrid.

Now unless someone's done a complete custom graphics overhall job on Logic  then we could indeed be looking at Logic Pro X here.

Only time will tell I guess.

Not sure I agree. Apart from the darker background (which may well have been altered in post to match nicely with the design of the new Apogee interface) that just looks exactly like Logic 9 to me. What else are you seeing that's different?

The channel strip level indicators are blue for starters,  the inspector check boxes are in a different place ( unless one of them is an instrument icon )  + it looks a lot more rounded off in the arrange window, kinda like Final Cut Pro X.

As I said though this may be a custom graphics job. More than likely that it is and this photo is just blured.

Interesting.  It's just a very quick shot in a video (as opposed to a photo) so I doubt they would have gone to the trouble of compositing in a fake interface.

Sure does look like Logic but a slightly different version.  I don't think Logic includes options to change the colors like that, although I supposed someone could have hacked the app to look like that.  Corners on regions look a bit more rounded too, besides GB it also reminds me of Soundtrack Pro (which was graphically way more slick and had way better audio editing, I'd love to see them take the best parts of STP and roll them in).

Maybe it is Logic 10, but even if that's the case it could still be months from release.  I don't buy their idea that it could be announced along with iPhone, it could be soon but I'd be shocked if they included it in a major event like that one.

After the pro market's reaction to Final Cut X, maybe they had to re-think the initial plan for Logic X, hence the long delay...

I mean I know Steve Jobs always had this philosophy of the users not really knowing what they want till it's given to them, but as regards the pro market I would catagorically state that this is not the case one bit. We know exactly what we want from our software.

And that's basically where they went wrong with Final Cut X.

I just hope it's not the case with Logic Pro X.

It would have been nice to have been asked though, you know with a thread on this forum from the developers seeing a lot of us here use this software day in, day out and have done for years.

Well, you would think that Logic developers would look at the problems that users are having, woudn't you, but that kind of idea is too simple for people that think about things too much because they're trying to fulfil the conditions of their particular job (the way they earn money)...

I'm happy with my particular set-up at the moment and I've come to the conclusion that the software that Apple are currently developing will work at its optimum with hardware that's less than 3 or 4 years old - I've used computers for a while, so I suppose I've generally replaced them at about that kind of frequency, anyway, so...

Apple's way of doing things is a very convenient way of shifting a lot of expensive hardware, but it may possibly be the only way of getting people into using really useful digital tools, so its difficult to come down on any particular side, even though I detest rampant capitalism.

That Apogee video has a cutomized Logic GUI running on top of Logic 9.

I use a modified GUI as well. It's fairly easy to do, and gives me more accurate meters. It's simply a matter of replacing some of the image contents in the Logic application folder.

I've never seen a Logic Graphic mod that could turn the track header black.

Any aspect of Logic's interface can be changed... I've known folks that did some pretty ridiculous mods. I've seen black and silver interfaces and such...

I think Apogee likely obscured the interface because they idn't want it to be obvious that they fancied Logic. They don't want to make Cubase, Reaper, Ableton Live, DP, or any other DAW user feel its not for them.

Here's a great site for GUI mods: http://ampguimods.net/logic_mods.html

It's a great way to see how aspects of the application can be changed.
