I have been using my iPod touch 4th generation about 22 months, and I am feeling that my iPod's battery is really low.

So I have done some search on google, and found out that Apple supports the battery replacement, however, the price was above my range(since I am a student). So I am looking for ways to renew my battery and check the exact amount of battery life.

Also, I have found out some people replace their batteries themselves using tools and buying batteries that are not Apple certified. Is that a good solution? Is there any possibility that my iPod touch can be broken?

If you are competent, it is not that hard. See:

    iPod Touch Repair – iFixit

    The batteries are quite inexpensive.

If not careful you can break something like a ribbon cable.

Read: Accurately determine your iPod battery life

These batteries really can't be renewed. They age and then they die. If you're lucky you will have some warning before it becomes completely useless.

You can go to any number of outfits that will replace your battery. I don't advocate that. If they break your Touch, you will be out of luck.

I'd try a DIY replacement as lllaass suggests. If you're careful you won't break it. If you do you will have only yourself to blame, but you'll learn something.
