Sep 6, 2012 1:05 PM in response to wuggby planb77,Are you using the standard headset that is included with the purchase of a new iPod? What do you mean they won't go in all the way? Did you check the headphone jack for signs of damage or debris that could be lodged inside preventing a full connection?
Perhaps it would be worth it to try another headset to rule out the possibly of a bad headset.

Sep 6, 2012 2:49 PM in response to planb77by wugg,Thank you for your prompt reply. No I haven’t used the provided headphone they hurt my ears. I have been using two sets for the last year with out any problems until this week. Yes I have cleaned the jack’s but I wasn’t sure how to check the inside of the nano I don’t have anything small enough

Sep 6, 2012 2:55 PM in response to wuggby planb77,★HelpfulDid the headphone jack look like it had any signs of damage? Since two sets or headphones didn't clear up the issue, it's like a hardware issue with the device. You'll likely need to have the headphone jack replaced.

Sep 7, 2012 11:45 AM in response to planb77by wugg,No sign of damage to either ipod or jacks that I can see. But I think you might be right a replacement headphone jack socket. Any idea where I can take it.

Sep 7, 2012 12:28 PM in response to wuggby planb77,One option is your local Apple Store (that is if you live anywhere near one... I don't). They won't actually repair the iPod, but instead will do an out of warranty exchange. See this page for pricing:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Otherwise, there are several third party repair services out there that will actually replace the headphone jack for a fee much smaller than what Apple charges. There may even be one in your local area.
Otherwise, you can probably Google for "iPod Nano headphone jack repair" and you should get a number of hits to work with. One I have heard good things about before is http://www.iresq.com/ipod-repair/nano-gen-3/iresq-ipod-nano-gen-3-headphone-jack -replacement-service.html
