Sep 7, 2012 4:45 AM in response to asteriusby BGreg,If you have a mid-2010 mini or newer, memory is a user replaceable part, so no warranty considerations (assuming of course that you change it per Apple instructions).
There has been discussion for mini's prior to the mid-2010 model regarding changing memory and warranty impacts, and there is no clear cut answer. If you read the hardware warranty, it would say if you replace a part and cause any damage to the system, that Apple is not responsible to cover that damage via the warranty. Does that void the warranty on the mini? There is anecdotal evidence that just changing the memory would not void the warranty, however, since Apple says that users shouldn't change the memory on pre-mid-2010 mini's, there is a basis to avoid warranty repairs.
