Q: When spilled water on MacBook Pro keyboard?

Turn it off and take it to apple and have them look at it...

Water + Electronics = short in the circuit somewhere....

Turning it on might cause more damage if some parts inside your Macbook is still wet - why take a chance...

You can also buy one of those keyboard skins to keep water from getting inside....

There have been lots of posts about water (and worse) spilled on Mac portables. Turning upside down, covering the computer with uncooked rice and many other "cures" have been posted but, most of the time, fail to prevent damage, even if only "pure water" is the invader. The damage is done when the water hits the live logic board, so the usual interventions only prolong the inevitible--a complete rebuild or a new computer.

The bottom line is that , in the majority of cases, the computer is ruined, or the repair cost would almost buy a new one.

The absolute best proactive step is to have homeowners'/renters' insurance that covers accidental damage to computer equipment. AppleCare does not. Get a deductible low enough that you can cash-flow the deductible.

Other things to consider "before the fact":

---Don't eat or drink near your laptop.

---Don't let friends eat or drink near your laptop. Hide the computer when they come to visit.

---If you have friends with IQs lower than the legal speed limit in the US, give them a blessing and then go find some smarter friends.

---If you have a cat, be aware that many cats see an open notebook computer as a drop-off station for biological samples. At best they find the keyboard to be a warm place to sleep. Keep the lid shut, even if you walk away from the computer for only a few minutes. Most computer techs will not even look at a compuer that's been fouled by a pet; they view it as a biohazard.

My homeowner's addendum for my $1800 MBP is $40/year.  Cheap insurance (literally) against accidents.

Not sure what you mean by "Apple certified".

But my agent has the receipt and says I will get replacement value as a check if a claim is filed.

Apple do not offer Accidental Damage insurance, your home insurer does.

The warranty that comes with the Mac for a year, and that can be extended for two more by purchasing AppleCare, covers manufacturing defects. A screen gone bad, a drive that dies by itself (not after being knocked off the 3rd. floor balcony), the battery that fails to hold a charge, etc. Not user misuse, peeing cats or any other similar hazard.

Why don't you contact your home owners insurance company and ask what coverage they have for what you want and how much?

Basically if you spill water or any other liquid on your Mac it will be TOAST. It seems Mac notebooks die at the least amount of water spilt on or even near them. Or at least that is the way it seems to me from all the posts on these forums about it.

There was one post where someone had spilt water next to their Mac notebook and it had puddled near the back where the air vents are. The fans had drawn that water into the unit and killed it.

I have no idea how other notebooks fair in this same situation as I personally have never spilt anything on any notebook or desktop computer keyboard, YET that is.

But I do know that the Dell notebooks I have and had have Accidental damage warranty coverage. Which is not available with Apple computers.

So don't ever spill anything on your Mac.

Was that provided by Dell? And how much beyond their normal warranty?

Yes inclusive in the 3 year standard warranty I got with my Business class Dell notebook.
