I do love Pages and use it often as a backup, but MS Word is my primary writing program as I am an author and my publisher for my books and for the column I write all use Word. The option to save the doc to iCloud came up when I was saving (yes, I do have it backed up on my iMac, in Dropbox and in Pages), but where is it in iCloud. It's a key document in my writing life. Can anyone help?

I'm assuming the option to save to icloud was from Pages, not Word.  If you log into using a computer's browser and go to the iWork page, all such documents will show up there.

You don't mention using an iOS device along with your mac.  Using iCloud with pages documents is primarily for syncing purposed between mac/devices and is not intended as an external storage location for just a single mac.  If you only use a mac (no ipad, etc.), then I would suggest not using icloud to store pages documents.

From Word????  As far as I know, MS has not incorporated icloud in their products.  I use Word for mac 2011 and have no such capability that I know of.  But if you have a way of saving directly to icloud from within Word, please let us know.

Have you attempted to locate the file using Spotlight?

I'm happy you found it, for now I suggest saving everything locally, you can backup to a cloud (not icloud) if you wish using one of the many free online services. I recommend taking a look at SugarSync 5G free (my choice) or Dropbox 2G free.

Terrific! and I am using Dropbox. I also figured out where the iCloud prompt appeared: I e-mailed the doc to myself from my Macbook Air, opened the e-mail on my iMac and Mac mail gave me the prompt to save the doc in iCloud--so I thought "cool" and that maybe iCloud would work like Dropbox. Then when I couldn't find the doc, I wrote the q. that started all this. I hope this explanation clears up what happened. And as the movie title goes, "It could happen to you" though clearly not to you Csound1 because you are so savvy.

    Tell my wife that please

I suppose you can see the word document in Pages' iCloud Document Library as well as in Finder.  You can also drag and drop word documents to the Library to save them.
