Q: iPhone 4S loses signal

TL;DR: iPhone loses signal completely with no apparent reason, rebooting helps, but 4 times in 8h is a bit too often.

Hey there,

I was very excited when I got the new iPhone 4S today. Unfortunately after 30min it didn't get any signal anymore. I live in a big city and have normally a very high signal strength. I let the iPhone search for the network provider a few times, but it didn't find anything (the iPad2 lying next to it had full signal strength).

Rebooting helped, but after another hour or so (and disrupting a call twice) it couldn't find any signal again. So I rebooted and there it was again. So all in all I had to reboot the phone about 4 times in 8 hours.

I couldn't find any similar problems in the forum so is this a unique problem? Is it a hardware or software problem? can I do anything against that?

Here are some additional infos:

Network provider: T-Mobile

I fixed this problem by disabling 3g. I didn't get an option to disable it in 5.0.1 so I jailbroke my phone with absinthe, and installed sbsettings, then I enabled the 3g icon within sbsettings and disabled the 3g from sbsettings itself. Problem solved!

I am having same issue I took it up with apple they changed the phone but I think it's a 4s issue the signal drops suddenly and it takes 2-3 min to come back in a area where signal is at it's best too . Even after changing from airplane mode doesn't help . I m told its a known issue to apple 4s .is it? Was it a mistake buying 4s

I also had the same problem and i tried everything but it didn't help. Then i realised that it was an app that i've just installed. After i deleted it, it was OK.

I think it is a known problem over Iphones. Its more prominent on 4s. Most of my friends are having same issue, This issue though existent is less prominent on iphone 4 . Grecsy,  The problem is not related to any App . This is a Iphone design issue. Best way is to check , just put the phone in Airplane mode. When you put in on again check the time it takes to catch the Mobile Signal. Its horendous compared to any other phone in Market

As I mentioned earlier, I had faced this signal losses while I was in dubai using DU carrier. Now I came for holidays in India and using IDEA network for last 2months. To my surprise I didn't faced this problem in signal loss yet. IDEA has good network coverage on this place too.

This brings doubt, whether this signal loses has to do with iPhone or carrier.

    Using iPhone 4S.

    Dear Apple and Steve Jobs,

This article will be related to "poor signal or No service issues" on the IPhone 4S, I watched your you tube video regarding iPhone signal issues, where you open by saying " all smart phones have issues", we not referring to all Android/smart phones, we referring to the IPhone !! I'm registered Disabled and need a phone that is re-liable, unfortunately this is not the case with my IPhone 4S, since iv had the phone it's been searching or No service ?. One would think Apple would get the problem resolved ? No it's obviously not, I noted your feedback regarding percentages of drop calls and returns ? This means nothing to a Apple customer having constant No Service issues, and from what I read on the Internet and word of mouth appears to be a large percentage ? I strongly believe if Apple don't address the issue YOU will loose your loyal Apple customers.

Contacted Apple care, was given 3 options to return phone, hello Disabled here, need a phone urgently Apple. Had the Blackberry 9800 previous, always had a signal.

    Lets hope Apple responds !,,

I also had this problem on my 4S. I called my network service provider who suggested turning off the 3G connection in settings. I did so, and this seems to have resolved the problem for me. Signal is now 3-4 bars whereas it was regularly zero or 1 bar before the setting change.

Hi, I have the same problem in China. I bought a new Iphone 4S, IOS 8.3 on 24th April 2015 in Chengdu. I have only had it over the weekend but I must return it to the apple store today, Monday 25th April 2015. This is because I make so many calls. At one point yesterday, it dropped the same call 6 times.I had to switch to an android phone to complete my call. Even when it is on standby mode, it keeps dropping the signal, and spends most of the time searching. I made the calls at exactly the same place that I use for making calls from my old Nokia 2730 and Samsung Mega using the same service provider, i.e. China Mobile. It is so disappointing that I did not know this is a known problem yet remains unfixed even in 2015!!!! I met acquaintance a couple of months ago who has an iphone 4s and we exchanged contacts. He owns an iphone 4s. Every time I call him, I am very exhausted because half time is spent picking up bits of his speech and the other half of the time in reconstructing the message. I am very ****** off with apple. Antennae issues are a very basic feature of a phone. Before apple should think of sophistication and sleekness, deal with the basics!!
