    Joesoes,

okay, if I back up on the Time Machine first, what exactly do I do?

Could you give me a quick step by step please?

And is there a serious risk of losing information?

    Thanks mate,

    Joesoes,

Then I logged back into my old account, ready to write you.........but I decided to give it another try from my normal account.....it usddenly worked!

    Great!

    But what causes this??

How come a complete reset didn`t work but logging on from a different account did??

    Thanks anyway my friend!!

Only the original POster can award points

This is done via a Helpful (5 point) Button which can be awarded to two different posts and a  Correct Button (10 points) to a third post if they wished.

That is to say they can award markers to up to to three different posts in the form of two Helpfuls and/or a Correct.

First check that FaceTime is not disabled in general/restrictions. If that isn't the problem try changing dns servers on your iPad.

    1. Go to the Settings App.

    2. Tap on Wi-Fi

    3. Your chosen network will be ticked. Tap on its white arrow over a blue circle button to its right

    4. Tap on DNS

    5. Replace the current information with 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4

    6. Try visiting a website with Safari to see if this works

    7. Try registering iMessage / FaceTime

    If still not working...

Settings -> General -> Date & Time -> Set Automatically: ON

Yes date time setting has been known to cause issue.

    Hi,

In this thread on the 23rd April  DNS server info

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18205390#18205390

28th July  Date and Time issue raised

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19064390#19064390

The thread you linked to has dates pre Mountain Lion's release so is most likely to be about the Messages Beta in Lion.

A search of the Messages beta Community shows dates for posts containing 8.8.8.8 pre-dating the post you link to.
This one that starts the 17th seems to be the earliest mention.

The Poster how you cite as your hero also states if FaceTime is to be Off in it's Preferences then Messages will not work (later post)

This is a complete falsehood. It is erroneous and misleading.

I have Apple Support Communities set up to display 25 Posts per "page"

I also view them in Threaded view so the view tends to be on chronological order for me.

However this threads ia over 7 "pages" long for me.

It takes time to find anything.
