Aug 21, 2012 7:17 PM in response to Luca Molteniby humanengr,As per Jonathan Rayson's reply, the notes are in ~/Library/Mail/V2/IMAP-(my email address)/INBOX.mbox/Notes.mbox.
Given that the mbox has notes as .emlx files (buried several folders down), another method might be to convert those files (using emlx-to-mbox, as recommended by MacUpdate), and then import into Mail. (<opt>-click> when opening the app to get past Apple's new security feature.)

Aug 29, 2012 5:23 AM in response to GL69by darwinp5101,I, too have an issue with notes, but it's once i get going with it.
I sync to 3 devices, iphone, ipad, macbook pro. Each time I start a new note on the mac, it creates a new note. Great. Trouble is, with almost every keystroke, it creates yet another note, same title. after typing 8 or 10 lines of text, I can end up with 20 or 30 notes, each with progressivly more text on them.
When I get done making the entries, I have to go back highlight every one except the first one on the list and delete them.
This appears only to happen when I'm creating one to start with.
Anyone else seen this?

Sep 14, 2012 2:46 PM in response to Robin Darrochby Rishi Sanyal,Thanks Robin, but, how were you able to drag & drop into Notes.app? That doesn't work at all for me.

Oct 19, 2012 2:18 AM in response to Robin Darrochby pyx69,I couldn't drag and drop emlx files into notes.app.
here is a quick trick to move in a single place all notes that are in ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes/Notes.mbox/
Open the terminal and do:
cd ~
mkdir Notes
cd ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes/Notes.mbox/
find . -name '*.emlx' -print0 | xargs -0 tar czvf ~/Notes/note.tgz
cd ~/Notes
tar xzf note.tgz --strip-components=4
You'll find al note files in Notes folder in your home (some are inside Messages subfolder)

Feb 23, 2013 5:26 PM in response to pyx69by Murphybp2,Even easier when you get to the Notes.mbox folder, just do a search for ".emlx". It will pull up all the files with that extension in the Notes.mbox folder. Then just drag and drop them to a new folder.

Jan 18, 2015 7:51 PM in response to Murphybp2by nwiz,Unfortunately none of the solutions worked for me, If none of these work for you don't worry I've got something else for you to try!
DISCLAIMER: I do NOT use iCloud, Time Machine, or any other email, program, or account to backup my Notes. If you have any of those options enabled or available I can not promise this will work for you. I upgraded from Maverick to Yosemite and immediately had this problem with my missing notes
I was able to do the following to manually find and copy/paste my notes back into the Notes app:
- From your Mac Desktop click "Go" on the top menu bar
- From the "Go" drop down menu, select "Go to Folder..."
- In the window that appears enter the below file path; make sure to replace "USERNAME" with your Mac user account name: //Users/USERNAME/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes
- Find the file named "NotesV3.storedata"
- Copy this file and save it into another folder (on your desktop works fine)
- Rename this file to "NotesV3.storedata.html" (if prompted, allow or accept the change to HTML)
- Double click the file and it should open in your default internet browser.
- Look through the text carefully, among the 'junk' text you should start to see the text from your lost notes.
- Copy whatever text you want to safe from this file and paste the text into Notes app on your Mac
- It is tedious but it is the only way I could restore my notes, hopefully it helps you too! - Please leave feedback in this thread about what worked for you.
I did call apple, reported this issue, and I'm expecting a call in 1.5 weeks from a senior tech about what engineering has found.
