Normally I wouldn't jump straight on the upgrade bandwaggon but after buying a 4th-gen touch two years ago, I'm really impressed by the new set of devices- I have a HTC Android-powered smartphone currently, which I'm less than pleased with but it's recently had a new lease of life (not sure how long it'll last though!) so could get the iPhone 5 as a replacement but am tempted by the new iPod touch as it has Siri support, which my current one lacks. Does anybody have any suggestions as to wether to get the iPhone 5 or the 5th-gen iPod touch? Thanks!

If you're looking for a phone as well as the Siri feature, I suggest getting the iPhone 5 for the following reasons:

    • If you buy an iPod touch, you are paying the full price out-of-pocket, and will still have to get a new phone when your HTC's temporary lease on life expires.
    • Since the iPhone has all the features of the new iPod touch plus the communication features of the phone, it seems to make sense to replace two devices with a single one that will do everything you're looking for.
    • Since you say you are eligible for an upgrade, you can get the phone for as little as $199 with the carrier subsidy. The iPod touch starts at $199 and doesn't have the phone features.

It seems like a clear choice from my perspective, in favor of the iPhone 5. And think of this: if you were going to buy a phone (even a non-iPhone) plus an iPod touch, you would probably spend $199 for each device. For that price, you could get the 64GB model of the iPhone 5.
