Q: Hi, Unable to send emails after 10.8.1 upgrade? Incoming seems unaffected.

Hi,

I am unable to send emails (outgoing mail) following downloading and upgrade to Mountain Lion (10.8.1) on an iMac.

There were no previous issues with Mail (6).

Currently rechecking settings following Help routine in 10.8 fixes

Double-checking all settings is good. Along the way, one thing to try:

Have a look at your SMTP server settings to see if the port is set to "default" or "custom".  If it is "default" try switching to custom using one of the numbers listed under "default". That fixed it for me on one of my accounts.

(To do all this:  Mail, Preferences, Accounts, Outgoing Mail Server, Edit SMTP server list, Advanced.)

    Thanks Charlie,

I 'tinkered' about for a while trying different settings and the 465 port seems to have worked!

Maybe some of the issues are with mobile me and same address..., though this could be rubbish... havent fully got to grips with its usefulness or not.

I don't know - but I had a similar problem with my local ISP/mail server and manually selecting a port fixed it.  I wonder if there is a little glitch in the default selecting port thing.  If I had more time I would try to experiment....

Anyway, glad you got it fixed.
