Q: upgrading from iphone 3g to iphone 5

I contacted my local provider, but they weren't of any real assistance. I need to know if there are any (or potentially might be any) issues with upgrading my iPhone 3g to the newer iPhone 5?

Specifically, I want to ensure that all of my data - contacts, text messages, application data, etc is correctly and fully ported over.

From my understanding, as long as I connect the new device to iTunes, it should do its thing and port over all of that data.

Thanks for your help, but the new iPhone will have a different version of iOS and my current device (b/c of the older version of iOS possible on this device) does not have iCloud. Are your instructions still applicable?

Yes. As long as the new iPhone has an equal or greater software version as the old one, AnaMusic's instructions are still applicable.

FWIW, I personally recommend backing up to iCloud once you get your new phone, as I find it a lot easier and more on-the-go friendly.

Yes... Just use the iTunes Method to go from your 3G to the 5...

Using iTunes to transfer information from your current iOS device to a new one

And all should be well...

Thanks. Ya, I want to use iCloud as well, but it seems like it canno be run on a 3g device, since the latest iOS is 4.2.1 and I cannot get the 5.x version on this device.

So, it seems like my only option is to go the iTunes route...

I'm in the same boat as lucky4armin, I need information regarding texts transfer from iphone 3g to the new iphone 5, I have 4 years of important texts personal and business, and I'm sure you must have found a solution by now, if not so I'm guessing I wont be able to transfer any texts from my iphone 5 to my iphone 9 If I needed to? Just doesn't make any sense. BTW text transfer did not work on itunes, just apps, contacts, notes, etc. Please help, thanks.

With a little more information, we might be able to determine why the restore failed. For starters, go to settings > general > about on each device. What "version" is running on each iPhone?

Try TransPhone, it's working fine, but a bit expensive...

After installing this, you'll Be able to send/recieve music, contacts, text messages, photos and Videos over bluetooth. Works fine with all mobile phones and computers...

I upgraded twice.
The first time is iPhone 4S to iPhone 5.
The second one is iPhone 5 to iPhone 5s.
I used Phone Transfer to transfer my contacts, messages, photos and call logs.
It supports multiple models of iPhone, hope this tool can help you.
